2024 has underscored, perhaps more than any year, the stark contrast between our blessings and the struggles of those with so little. While many of us are surrounded by the comforts of shelter, stability, and safety, there are those, especially in Palestine and among vulnerable communities around the world, who have neither the security of a home nor the assurance of peace. In these moments, we are reminded that even when people have only a fraction—sometimes less than 0.01%—of what we take for granted, they still find strength in gratitude for whatever little they have or once had. It is a perspective shift, a call to reflect. As this year comes to a close, may we not only appreciate our blessings but also channel that awareness into compassion and support for those who continue to endure. May 2025 bring us closer to a world that is more humane, more compassionate, and more just—a world with fewer double standards and greater unity.

The lives of everyone connected to Israel and Palestine will never be the same since October 7, 2023. With tens of thousands of lives lost, families torn apart, and children traumatized, now more than ever, we need to continue to show up for one another to mourn, remember, and call for an end to the violence and demand a political solution that brings freedom, justice, and safety for all. Israelis and Palestinians need the international community to join together around our shared grief to heal and build hope that another way is not only possible but imperative. This year will be the 19th annual joint Israeli-Palestinian Memorial Day ceremony organized by Combatants for Peace and the Parents Circle-Families Forum. The Ceremony will take place on May 12, 2024. This year, Combatants for Peace and the Parents Circle-Families Forum will center the ceremony around the stories of children whose only crime was being born Palestinian or Israeli. As we welcome the Jewish New Year, we also approach the Memorial Day for the tragic events of October 7th. This past year has been incredibly challenging for many of us – starting with the brutal terrorist attack on Israel, seeing the entire year being overshadowed by these shattering events. No doubt, years will pass until we fully understand what had happened and how did such atrocities even take place.   One thing is certain: many of us were living under misconceptions that were shattered on that horrible day. As we move forward, it’s crucial to reflect on our beliefs and assumptions. What are our compromised conceptions? How do we identify them, and how do we challenge them?   As we return to our daily lives and work, let’s take this opportunity to challenge our assumptions and strive for a deeper understanding.   May this Jewish New Year bring better days, the safe return of our 101 hostages, and a renewed sense of hope and resilience.   Wishing everyone a meaningful and reflective New Year. 🍎🍯
