A wee fun video we made last year for our client Fibrecast. We took a symbol of an internet user's pain-point (the loading wheel of doom!!) to immediately get people to resonate with the problem of bad broadband. Starting the video this way does 2 things: 1] It immediately gets that guttural reaction of thinking because wonder if the video really isn't loading! Did you check your connection when this video started playing? 2] It creates a sense of anticipation... what is happening?! What will happen next? This anticipation early in the video keeps retention longer than if not. But perhaps even more importantly, this was a great way for a broadband provider who care about people's experience of online to communicate that they know what bad performance feels like. As we then go on to dismantle that pesky pin wheel there is a payoff and relief for the user and we see Fibrecast as the people making reliable, broadband happen. These guys are seriously awesome & taking the fast broadband to the people. When connectivity issues unfold during a live news event, video quality may inevitably be impacted. The Dejero Store & Forward feature in its EnGo video transmitters can record high-quality footage locally—even during challenging network conditions. Read our blog post to learn how to use this handy feature: https://hubs.ly/Q02YnFMX0

Ever had your network decide it's party time and invite everyone? That's a broadcast storm! Network loops can turn your smooth operation into a conga line gone wrong, misconfigured hardware might as well be someone not reading the instructions, and excessive broadcast traffic is just everyone trying to talk at once! Implement STP (Spanning Tree Protocol) as the bouncer of your network. Segment your network because no one likes an overcrowded dance floor, and regularly update and configure your devices – nobody wants a DJ stuck in the '90s! Keep your network in check and avoid the digital conga line! #TechTips #NetworkSecurity

Nothing is more impactful than the use of cellular bonded technology in live tv news and sports gathering. I’ve embraced it. I’ve championed it. I’m “all in”. However, as Thursday’s national outage of cellular connectivity caused a giant hiccup to our day-to-day life, we need to make sure our redundant (traditional/backup) systems are ready to roll at a moments notice. Broadcasters: what’s the status of your mircrowave equipment? Do your IFB systems over 2-way work? When was the last time you tuned in live shots or ran the satellite uplink truck? Who is trained to use these trucks? Today should be an important reminder to local and national broadcasters that it’s our job to provide the news and deliver the content regardless of the circumstances—that’s what sets us apart from any other news medium. I encourage my colleagues new, old and young to reevaluate your redundancy plans and continue to be prepared for the next connectivity hiccup. Storm season is right on our doorstep.
