We frequently encountered construction companies that are confused with their understanding of project manager's roles. When the employer does not empowered their project managers, we find their performance is very much affected in their discharge of duties. They become messengers rather than executors who provide leadership to the team. They are only extension of eyes and ears of the top management who still hold on to the power. The delegation of power was never consistently being allocated to the project manager. The end result is you have no proper leadership in the project team where leadership is most needed. In construction environment, the project managers encountered many problems and challenges, without the delegation of power and top management support for the team. Their performance is compromised. However, the blame will always go to the project manager and his team. It's high time for the top management in our region to look into this aspect of the project management and empowerment of project manager.

Leadership...What's the biggest project you can manage? 🤔 PM...It depends. How are you measuring it...and what do you mean by "manage?" 🙄 Not all projects are created equal. Some are high visibility and others are highly technical. Many in the IT and construction space are considered "megaprojects" and not for the faint of heart. Megaprojects typically cost more than $1B, are very complex and usually impact tens of thousands, sometimes millions, of stakeholders that are internal and external to the project. Before you sign up for a megaproject you better be asking some important questions. Like- Exactly how much is it worth and how is it being calculated? What are the cost controls involved? What does the approval process entail for changes? What paperwork is required? Is there Government oversight? How many team members are involved? How many direct reports will I have? What is the variance threshold for termination? (Seriously.) And the list goes on and on. And on and on! If you aren't scared/excited of a megaproject then you're either very experienced or too inexperienced to know you should be scared. They are make or break opportunities so tread lightly!

Here’s what really matters when the risks are high: 𝐂𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫 𝐕𝐢𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 When things get tough, everyone needs to be on the same page about why we’re doing this. For instance, during a recent project, our team was faced with conflicting priorities from various stakeholders. By continuously reminding everyone of our ultimate goal, we managed to align efforts and stay focused, turning potential chaos into a streamlined workflow. 𝐀𝐝𝐚𝐩𝐭 𝐐𝐮𝐢𝐜𝐤𝐥𝐲 High-risk projects often throw curveballs our way. There was a time when we had to change our entire strategy after a sudden supplier issue left us without critical materials. Instead of panicking, we quickly sourced alternative suppliers and revised our timeline, which helped us keep the project moving forward. 𝐄𝐦𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐞𝐚𝐦 Letting the team make quick decisions not only speeds things up but also builds their confidence. Trusting them to take ownership allowed us to act fast when every second mattered. 𝐑𝐞𝐥𝐲 𝐨𝐧 𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐚 Guessing isn’t an option in high-risk situations. On this project, making data-driven decisions kept us on track, even with tight deadlines and changing requirements.
