This week's focus is on culture and the pivotal role of leaders in fostering a culture of respect, learning, and trust. One of the key challenges for leaders is transitioning from being hands-on to embracing the role of Chief Culture Officer. It involves shifting attention from technical aspects of work to creating an environment that unleashes the potential of their team. Reflecting on my own experience transitioning from a lead special operations pilot to a commander, I realized that my role was no longer about completing tasks but about empowering and recognizing the potential of those under my leadership. "Learning". As much as my latest profession, especially as a TEC / #Vistage Chair, promotes learning, it isn't expressed as the first priority for my members, although it certainly happens. Halfway through 2024 I have realised that is going to change. Business leaders who have been "lifelong learners" will have a competitive advantage and those who promote this approach in their organisations even more so. The learning and development role in an organisation is critical - provided CEO's understand the immensity of the challenge As a coach and facilitator of executive groups I owe it those I work with to understand the changes they will face over the next 2-3 years.
