Compressed biogas (#CBG) is a renewable natural gas derived from the #anaerobic #digestion of #organic #waste, such as agricultural residues, municipal solid waste, or wastewater. It undergoes compression to reduce its volume, making it suitable for use as a clean and sustainable fuel in #transportation or #industrial applications. 🔍 The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has announced it is examining the supply chains of biofuel producers. Biofuels play a vital role in addressing energy security, reducing greenhouse gas emissions, and promoting sustainable development, aligning with several UNSDGs such as affordable and clean energy (SDG 7), climate action (SDG 13), and sustainable cities and communities (SDG 11). They offer a renewable alternative to fossil fuels, mitigating environmental impacts and advancing global sustainability goals. Aemetis, Inc., a renewable energy company, has voiced strong support for the updated Low Carbon Fuel Standard (LCFS) proposal by the California Air Resources Board (CARB). The updated LCFS aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 85%, create over 4 million jobs, and save Californians billions in health costs associated with pollution. 'The LCFS is a highly effective program to reduce emissions and improve air quality,' said Eric McAfee, Aemetis CEO. 'We urge CARB to adopt the updated LCFS to decarbonize transportation while generating investment and jobs.' The proposal supports CARB's goals for 2045, including improved air quality for disadvantaged communities near pollution sources. Aemetis operates a biogas network converting dairy waste into Renewable Natural Gas and an ethanol facility supplying animal feed to 80 dairies.
