Today, we celebrate the International Girls in ICT Day, advocated by UN Women. It's a day dedicated to empowering girls and young women in the field of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Around the globe, various events and workshops are held to inspire and equip girls with the skills needed to thrive in the digital world. However, as we observe this day, we must acknowledge the challenges girls face online. Digital threats, such as exposure to harmful content and online harassment, can prevent them from accessing educational resources and participating in digital spaces. By creating safer online environments, we enable girls to fully explore their potential. Visit UN Women's website to find out how you can get involved and inspire the next generation of female leaders in technology 👉 https://bit.ly/3W267HL #GirlsinICT #UNWomen #EmpowerGirls #OnlineSafety #DigitalOpportunities #DigitalLiteracy #GirlSafety #UNDay #INHOPE

Over the years, I’ve experienced many triumphs and setbacks on my journey towards becoming a technology professional. As we celebrate Girls in ICT Day this week, I would like to share my personal journey - the highs, the lows and the in-betweens. Particularly, I would like to stress how important it is for girls to have positive role models in spaces where we are minorities and to have a support system, especially when things become challenging or confusing. However, in the absence of role models or support, it is equally important for us to believe in ourselves and persevere as we strive to achieve our dreams. Did you know that internet access is now considered a human right? ✊ The concept of human rights has been evolving as the society progresses, so let’s look at the human rights in a digital age. Here are some quick facts: 🌐The UN recognizes internet access as a human right, emphasizing digital freedom. However, more than one third of population does not have access to it. This phenomenon is called Digital Divide. 🧑💻Young people are the most connected group, with 79% of 15 to 24-year-olds using the internet. 🛡️ Internet is not a safe space. Cyberbullying affects over a third of youth, with significant impacts on education. At Allianz Technology, our dedication to human rights is reflected in our human rights policies, as well as our actions. For example, we educate young people about technology and cybersecurity through volunteering initiatives supported by our partners. As we mark the Human Rights Day, let's reflect on our role in promoting equality 👐. Share this post to amplify the message and inspire others! 📢 #HumanRights #TechnologyForGood #DigitalTransformation #Inclusion #Sustainability

"Happy International Girls in ICT Day! Today, we celebrate the achievements of girls and women in the field of Information and Communications Technology. It's important to recognize the contributions of women in this industry, as they have been historically underrepresented. Girls in ICT Day serves as a reminder that we need to encourage more girls to pursue careers in technology. There are so many exciting opportunities in this field, from coding and programming to cybersecurity and data analysis. And yet, only a small percentage of girls choose to study these subjects. But things are changing. More and more girls are becoming interested in technology, and organizations like ours are working hard to provide them with the resources they need to succeed. At AITECH, we will continue to support and empower girls and women, so that they can become the next generation of leaders in ICT. So, to all the girls out there who are interested in technology: don't be afraid to pursue your dreams, we are here to receive you! You have the talent and the intelligence to succeed in this field. And to everyone else: let's continue to support and encourage girls in ICT, so that we can create a more diverse and inclusive industry for everyone." Happy International Girls in ICT Day. AITECH.

APRIL 25TH Today is International Girls in ICT Day. On this day, I need to encourage more girls to learn about and work with information and communications technology (ICT). The facts show there are not enough girls and women in tech fields like computer science and engineering. Worldwide, only 30% of tech workers are women. In Africa, less than 20% of university students studying ICT are female. Women only hold about 25% of tech jobs across Africa. This is not because girls can't do well in tech. The problem is things like: - Misconception around thinking tech is just for boys - Girls not getting the same chances to learn about and practice tech skills - Not enough role models of successful women in tech careers(Which is rapidly changing though). However, when girls do get opportunities in tech through programs, clubs, camps etc., they can become really good at it! I have seen this myself while volunteering with Teens-Launch Africa. This non-profit organization teaches digital/tech skills to young people. During outreaches, I watched teams of secondary school girls from underprivileged areas create amazing innovative tech solutions for their communities. The girls were so talented at coding, problem-solving and teamwork when given the right training. We need more of this! The more girls and women we have working in technology, the stronger and more innovative our tech industries will become. Diverse perspectives make for better problem-solving. So on this Girls in ICT Day, I encourage: - Schools to teach more technology, coding, etc. to girls - Tech companies to have mentors and role models for girls - Parents to support their daughters' interests in tech - Girls to be confident and pursue their passion for technology! When we skill up girls in ICT from a young age, we will see a explosion of new ideas and creations to improve our world. Our future depends on empowering all of our brilliant girls in tech. Let's make it happen! #GirlsInICT #WomenInTech #DigitalSkills

There’s a lack of gender diversity in computer science and IT in Canada – in post-secondary and industry. It needs to change. How? For International Women’s Month, we talked to staff members of NAIT's computer courses for ideas on what needs to happen (and some unique measures they’ve already taken) to bring more women into one of Canada’s fastest-growing industries.

'Technology empowers youth in activism, education, and economic participation, yet challenges like the digital divide and cybersecurity risks call for balanced, inclusive policies to ensure sustainability.' We wrote in the German Institute of Development and Sustainability (IDOS) blog article. Penny Si Peng
"The role of technology as a catalyst in driving youth engagement in global development presents a dual-edged narrative – both a boon and a bane. While it has undeniably empowered youth by providing avenues for activism, economic participation, and education, the pervasive digital divide, cybersecurity vulnerabilities, and unsustainable digital consumption highlight the pressing need for balanced, inclusive, and responsible policies."
