To all prospective pupils as you get ready to brace yourselves for your first or next round of pupillage application forms, here are my tips: 1 - think really carefully about the questions and make sure you address the actual question as fully and concisely as possible - it always surprises me how this basic point is often overlooked. 2 - get a friend (or three) to proof read the form for you before you press send. A few unfortunate typos can sink your ship. 3 - If you have faced challenges along the way in your life - generally or in your educational journey specficially, (socio economic, ill health, disability, prejudice/discrimination, life events such as unplanned pregnancy, bereavement etc...) don't be afraid to set out these challenges and how you overcame them as part of your application where this can be properly incorporated into answering the actual question on the form. Chambers will be keen to ensure that merit is recognised and graded fairly and this sometimes requires context to fully understand achievement. White Cane Safety Day is observed annually on October 15th . White Cane Safety Day is a yearly event that highlights the significance of the white cane as a sign of independence and mobility for those who are blind or have visual impairments. This day also focuses on pedestrian safety and the rights of individuals with visual disabilities. While the white cane is a helpful tool for mobility and independence, there are times when assistance is necessary. The RNIB offers some helpful tips: If you notice someone who might need help, ask them. Let them explain what kind of assistance they require, whether it's crossing the street or locating the train station. If you are assisting someone, remember these guiding techniques: - Introduce yourself and speak directly to the person you are helping. - Ask how they prefer to be guided. - Inform them about curbs and steps as you approach, indicating if they go up or down. - Point out any potential dangers ahead and describe their location. - When guiding someone to a seat, place their hand on the back of the seat before they sit, so they can get their bearings. - Always let them know when you are leaving. #WhiteCaneSafetyDay #VisuallyImpaired #PedestrianSafety #AccessibilityMatters
