It goes beyond just writing a check—it's about creating real impact and showing that your business is genuinely invested in making a difference. It's not about following trends or picking the most popular cause. It's about reflecting on what resonates with your mission and leveraging your strengths to amplify a cause you believe in. Corporate Social Responsibility is getting higher on the agenda for many businesses- this article explains why it is so important and the benefits for both corporates and charities.

I'm often approached by people with BIG dreams. They have a fantastic idea that's really going to help others and they're desperate to get it 'out there' so it can help as many people as possible. But here's the thing. Starting and growing a charity is a bit like planting an acorn and watching it turn into a towering oak tree. It takes time. Just as every oak tree starts life as a tiny acorn, having the biggest impact usually begins by taking small steps. Starting small lets you learn, adapt, and build a solid foundation. It gives you a chance to bring the best people around you, and to watch your vision expand as others grab a hold of it. Taking small steps also helps you understand the journey better and prepares you for the challenges ahead. Because they will come (sorry, but it's true!). 2025 (yes I've gone there!) Social enterprises and charities this post is for you. Last week I was booked to facilitate a 2025 planning session happening in October to set the small organisation up for success for January onwards. I really respect and am a huge advocate for businesses being proactive about making space for these conversations. We can brand it 'strategy' or 'OKR / KPI discussion' or 'Quarterly Planning' but ultimately you are getting people together to have some human conversations about the future of their business. If you are a small social enterprise or charity and want some support with this, I have a free session plan for 1hr, 3hr and a full day depending on the level of detail you want to go into. When I worked in start ups it was a blessing when we had a bit of budget for someone external so that I could participate fully in the session with my team.

As a fundraiser, I often encounter roadblocks in my day-to-day work. Questions like Where do I start? How should I proceed? What if there’s no meeting? How do I create opportunities? constantly run through my mind. But what truly matters is not letting these thoughts hold me back. Instead, I focus on staying proactive—meeting new people, engaging in meaningful interactions, and consistently making efforts. It’s okay to move at a slow pace, as long as you don’t stop.
