✈️🤯🇮🇸 This is 🤯safjördur Airport. Located in the northwest of Iceland, it is one of the most spectacular and challenging airports in the world. Located in a fjord surrounded by imposing mountains and along the coastline, its track extends along a narrow tongue of land penetrating the fjord’s waters. This airport serves mainly the small town of ordsafjör Íur, the capital of the Vestfir deir region (West Fjords), known for its stunning natural landscape. What makes this airport special is its approach: planes must perform a complicated maneuver to land, turning nearly 180 degrees between the mountains just before touching the runway. Extreme weather conditions, especially in winter, add even more challenge to air operations. However, the experience of landing here offers unparalleled views of the snow-capped mountains and the fjord, making this airport a true gem among aviation lovers. Despite its modest size, the airport is a key piece connecting the remote Vestfir Air region with Reikiavik and other parts of the country, facilitating the transport of people and goods in one of the most isolated areas of Iceland. 🏔 EXPEDITION LAUNCH 🏔 After an unbelievable 2024, it’s time for the third chapter of the Ultimate Seven Project, my world-first aim to journey from the lowest altitude to the highest peak on all seven continents by human power alone. In September 2023 I completed the 1,636-mile 28-day Africa leg. In May 2024 I completed the 3,588-mile 64-day North America leg. Now it's time for (drumroll)... 🌎 South America 🌎 In January 2025 I’m heading to Argentina to tackle the next epic leg of this journey. This expedition will take me from the deepest point in the Western Hemisphere at Laguna del Carbón to the summit of the mighty Aconcagua (6,962 metres) —the highest mountain outside the wider Himalayas. I’ll be cycling over 1,600 miles solo through vast Patagonian landscapes, pushing through strong winds with minimal support. Then I’ll join my trusted climbing partner Mike Stevenson to attempt Aconcagua’s summit, facing thin air and frigid conditions on a challenging peak with a typical summit success rate of just 30-40%. Every mile pedaled and every meter climbed is part of a much bigger story—my quest to complete the Ultimate Seven, a multi-year global adventure spanning some of the most extreme places on Earth.
