We were going to do a big post about who we are and what we do (which will likely come in the future (#content) but we really wanted to start with WHY (no infringement meant, Mr. Sinek). Why in a sea of incredible consultants and consultancies have we established Constellation? Why do we want to bring something new to the table? Our why is simply this: small charities need more help than ever before, and as charity people to our core, we want to be the ones to help them. From our combined years of working with small charities, we’re noticing themes. 💛 Small charities are founded and run by the best, kindest, most impressive people in the sector  👩🔧 These founders and CEOs are having to do EVERYTHING either unpaid or on very low wages 🔥 The sector is on fire. Funding is harder to get than ever before and so many CEOs are being forced to spend so much of their time scrabbling around for funding, when their energy and resources should be concentrated on supporting their communities 😿 CEOs are then getting burnt out and disillusioned and in some very sad cases, are folding their charities and leaving the sector  💸 One income stream isn’t enough to sustain a charity, but working out what else you should be adding to your already full plate is impossible. At Constellation, we believe that small charities make the world go round. The support they provide to people across the UK (and the world!) is unparalleled. We built Constellation to address these issues to support Small Charities in a different way, so that their CEOs can continue to thrive, their communities can benefit and the world can be made a better place. Simple. 💫

I've worked for and with small charities my whole career, including the entirety of the nearly 10 years I've been running Lime Green Consulting. And they consistently blow me away with their work. So often, small charities are the quickest to get things done, the most generous with their time and expertise, the most fiercely committed to their values, and have the best understanding of the community they work with. Truth is, they sometimes put bigger organisations to shame, in these areas and others. But their work is often undervalued and overlooked - by the general public, by policymakers, and by other people in the sector. We all benefit from small charities being well-supported, even if we don't realise it. Chances are, a small charity looks after your local park, runs a vital service that your family member uses, or advocates for people that you really care about. Of course we are a Museum of Firefighting & love sharing our history in the most interactive & educational way possible, but! Our museum is the method for us to raise as much money as possible to provide help to 999 workers suffering from mental illness. We want you to always keep this in mind as it is the whole reason we came to exist. Think of us as a charitable organisation with the objective of preventing as much as possible the progression to suicidal thoughts and as a safety net when mental illness is career ending. Loss of career or death by suicide will affect the families of 999 workers for generations such as grief, poverty & crippling debt. This is not right & cannot be allowed We can’t do this alone ! You the public are really the only ones who can make a real difference to mentally ill 999 workers. We can’t achieve anything without your financial contribution. We are working hard to fundraise for a new premises to become financially self sufficient through museum activities & until we reach our target we are severely restricted in how we can help those in need. Are you a charity or local community project that would like support from a local business? HBC is a local courier business to Biggleswade. We are passionate about supporting local charities and reducing our carbon footprint. We have been initiated with local businesses and charities approaching us and want to do as much as we can to help. Therefore, every month we will be selecting a charity at random to support for four weeks. Do you need a volunteer? Do you need help with a donation drive? Do you need a food donation pledge? Do you need us to promote an event? Do you need something transported? We will try our best within that month to help your cause. I wanted to donate a large sum, but the charities I reached out to didn't want my money. Yes, you read that right... After hitting rock bottom last year, I finally reached a point in life where I could give back in a way I had dreamed of since childhood. I was ready to make a difference. Something personal. Something I could see and feel. I wanted to fund a specific project, witness the change, and be inspired to give for the rest of my life. But the responses were nothing like I expected. Each charity told me the same thing: My donation would go into a general fund, and I'd receive a generic newsletter update. No specific names, no detailed locations, and certainly no option to visit and experience the difference myself. I stopped and thought: Do these charities NOT want my money? Eventually, I did find a smaller organization that "allowed" me not only to donate but to travel to Nepal (with my 7 year old son) and witness the inauguration of the computer lab my donation funded. But the experience with those first 5 charities left me stunned. It made me think to myself: just how many potential donors may be deterred by the traditional charity model that lacks personal connection and transparency. My takeaway? If we want people to give generously, charities need to change their approach. Donors are looking for impact they can feel, not just a thank you letter and a generic monthly update.
