When people ask me why I joined Air Liquide, I tell them that I felt a world of opportunities out there for the young graduate that I was. One notable example is the European training and development program, ALLEX (Air Liquide Leading EXcellence), which provides young talent with the chance to experience different functions within the company through two international missions, each lasting three months in another country in Europe. 🧳🌍Changing countries and cultures allows you to learn a lot about yourself, which I believe is invaluable. To succeed, you need to be adaptable, find solutions, and collaborate with others to get things done. It's essential to understand what motivates people and what is important in different environments. 🚀 The ALLEX program's short-term rotations are designed to accelerate the development of young talents in international contexts and help them expand their professional networks. Ensuring skills development programs are designed to meet the needs of employers has long been a best practice of sector-based workforce development models. A report by the Future Skills Centre - Centre des Compétences futures highlights the important role that intermediary organizations can play in coordinating efforts among stakeholders to help "alleviate employer capacity constraints, especially for SMEs, and improve program design. As Ontario’s tourism and hospitality workforce development organization and lead of Tourism SkillsNet Ontario, OTEC engages with employers at multiple points when designing and launching new programs. For example, when identifying the specific business challenges that could be addressed by enhancing their team’s skills and by validating program learning outcomes. OTEC stays connected with employers to ensure alignment with the sectors needs through TSNO alliance’s Regional Working Groups and industry advisory/validation groups. Coordination of workforce development resources and providing economies of scale is a key objective of the TSNO alliance. With a focus on building a skilled workforce, Russom outlined key initiatives that will ensure the industry thrives: ATIA accreditation: A renewed commitment to high standards through trusted accreditation, supporting quality and reliability as demand for skilled professionals surges. Gap Year Experience: Launching in mid-2025, this pilot program targets school leavers, offering them up to a year of real-world experience in the travel industry. It’s a pathway to attract young talent and showcase travel as a long-term career. Travel Career Kickstart Program: A practical, short training course for new entrants, designed to fill the gaps in formal education and prepare them for success from day one. I had the pleasure of attending the B2B Expo at the Apollo Hotel in Basingstoke today, where I represented TKD24. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed by enthusiastic professionals who were eager to showcase their companies unique skills, services, and innovative processes. This experience highlighted how important Expos are for businesses, especially local ones, in attracting new clients and potential employees. As a recent graduate starting my career, this event was incredibly valuable. I gained insight into how businesses across various sectors operate, got a better understanding of their processes, and learned about the challenges they face and the strategies they use to overcome them. Engaging with business directors and fellow new starters helped me appreciate the diversity of approaches across industries and how essential adaptability and innovation are for success. During the Expo, I was approached by an employee from an organisation that facilitates learning services for Project Management qualifications. This conversation quickly became incredibly engaging as we discussed my aspirations to become a Project Manager in the future. They highlighted that I could complete an APM qualification in advance, providing me with a valuable step toward being qualified for the position. One of the most important takeaways was the opportunity to meet people face-to-face, and learn directly from their expertise. Discussing challenges, hearing success stories, and getting a deeper look into what drives different organisations are opportunities that only an event like this can offer. For someone like me, just beginning my career, Expos are an invaluable platform not only for learning but also for making connections providing mutual benefit, that can shape future opportunities.
