Sister José Women’s Center, a Tucson-based nonprofit, is committed to the mission of aiding and uplifting women experiencing homelessness. At their low-barrier day center, they offer unaccompanied women stability and safety, providing them with a refuge to heal from the harsh realities of life in the United States. There are women centers and women's shelters but there are not enough beds. These elderly women are vulnerable, most of them have chronic illness or battling with dementia. They are experiencing homelessness because they cannot afford housing in Tucson anymore. Sweeping away homeless encampments is not the solution. Tucson, how can we help? This is not a rhetorical question: If we all get together, I am sure we can find a solution. https://lnkd.in/d7ttvhkB

Honestly, can we trust the numbers? 🧮 In this video, we’re exploring point-in-time (PIT) counts - an attempt to determine the number of people experiencing homelessness on a single night over the entire state of California. We’re examining data the counts have provided over the years, looking at how the PIT counts work and why they might not be as optimised and accurate as they could be (yet!). The script was largely based on our blog post “New Counts of Homelessness and More YIMBY vs NIMBY” by Rohan Montgomery. In November, Social4Good partnered with Carpenter's Shelter to bring joy to children, teens, and adults experiencing homelessness. Carpenter's Shelter supports people in our community experiencing or at risk of becoming homeless achieve sustainable independence through shelter, housing placement, guidance, education, and advocacy. Social4Good's project donated over $6,000 in toys and gift cards for teens and adults. In addition, members will volunteer at the Holiday Marketplace to help parents shop and wrap. Meghan Cole of Carpenter's Shelter expressed her organization's deep appreciation for the work Social4Good does. "Social4Good's project brings joy and hope to our youngest residents during the holiday season, allowing them to experience the magic of opening presents thoughtfully chosen and lovingly wrapped by their parents. Partnerships like this reflect the care, dignity, and compassion at the core of Carpenter's Shelter's mission. Even a small act of kindness, like a gift on Christmas morning, can remind our residents that they are supported by their community and never alone on their journey to lasting independence," stated Cole.

The Mersades Ann Foundation (MAF) has achieved significant success in the nonprofit sector by cultivating partnerships with community leaders, law enforcement, prison outreach programs, family law professionals, and other nonprofit organizations. Their collaborative approach, combined with extensive volunteer support, has enabled MAF to begin to serve the 1,550 children in the DuPage and Kane county area affected by parental incarceration. MAF's primary aim is to break the cycle of generational imprisonment by instilling hope and empowering these children. By prioritizing holistic well-being, the foundation seeks to create a nurturing environment that promotes healing and potential. The success of MAF's initiatives relies heavily on the engagement and contributions of donors, community members, and organizational partners. Through these combined efforts, MAF strives to foster resilience and transform the lives of the children they serve. Mersadesannfoundation.org

⭐️TODAY ONLY ~ DOUBLE YOUR DONATION ⭐️ Unaccompanied women, especially aging older adults, are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population. The women who arrive at WISEPlace are often at their most vulnerable. 100% have experienced domestic violence and nearly 30% are disabled. That’s why I’m fundraising on behalf of WISEPlace for the Help Them Home initiative. WISEPlace’s mission is to see that every woman in need is safely housed, empowered, and on a path to personal stability. https://lnkd.in/gmQfqYxk Women who find their way to WISEPlace are often lacking the resources to end homelessness on their own. Despite these uphill battles, 96% of WISEPlace’s participants have attained and retained housing through its transformative programs. WISEPlace doesn’t just provide a program; it's a roadmap to stability and independence. WISEPlace’s 2023 Program Outcomes showcase the power of resilience and support. From our intake team: "In July, we saw a 30% increase in service requests compared to the previous month. Each inquiry is carefully reviewed to determine if we can best serve their needs. We assess factors such as abuse or neglect history, jurisdiction, legal standing, and the specific area of law required. Out of these inquiries, 40% met the criteria to proceed with a full application. While we can’t assist every family directly, it’s reassuring to know that even when we’re not the right fit, we can connect them with other valuable community resources, ensuring no one is left without support." -Gabby Cena, MJM Intake Specialist #mjm #methodistjusticeministry #nonprofitlawyers #probonolawyers #philanthropy #hope #protect #support #admin #july #fortworth #officestats
