World Children's Day is celebrated on November 20th to mark the adoption of two important documents by the United Nations: The Declaration of the Rights of the Child (1959) The Convention on the Rights of the Child (1989) The day focuses on advocating, promoting, and celebrating children's rights, which lead to dialogues and actions that build a better world for children. The day emphasizes the importance of listening to children's voices, understanding their ideas for a better world, and including their priorities in actions today. It also highlights the challenges children face, such as poverty, lack of education, and healthcare, and calls for global commitment to protect and support children's rights. In essence, the day serves as a reminder of the importance of fostering an environment where every child can grow, learn, and thrive in safety and happiness. #WorldChildrensDay #ProtectChildrensRights #ForEveryChildEveryRight #4ABetterWorld

World Children’s Day - 2024 Listen to the future. Stand up for children’s rights. World Children’s Day is UNICEF’s global day of action for children, by children, marking the adoption of the Convention on the Rights of the Child. Child rights are human rights. They are non-negotiable and universal. But in too many places today children’s rights are being misunderstood, disregarded or even denied and attacked. Upholding children’s rights is the compass to a better world – today, tomorrow and into the future. We can choose a different course – one where every child survives, thrives and meets their full potential. A better world for all children is possible. #worldchildrenday #2024

Participation is a key aspect of sustainable development and good governance. Goal 16 of the Sustainable Development Goals emphasizes the role of governance, inclusion, participation, rights, and security in sustainable development. In particular, target 16.7 is to “ensure responsive, inclusive, participatory and representative decision-making at all levels”. From a rights perspective, there are strong arguments for the participation of children in the governance of their cities, towns, and villages. While child participation is a right in itself, it also leads to the realization of other rights. So how do we as duty-bearers ensure that children as right-holders can enjoy their right to participation? We are thrilled to present the 2nd edition of our 3 + 3 days residential workshops on “Reimagining Participation” & “Reimagining Life Skills”. You will find these two workshops relevant and meaningful if you believe in the agency of children, adolescents, and young people. Happy Universal Children's Day, 2024. Children are not just our future, they are our present and their rights as well as voices are more important than ever. As we celebrate the Universal Children's Day 2024, let us ponder upon this year's strong theme: "Listen. Reflect and Engage." - Listen: Actually hear what children say about their dreams, fears, and hopes. - Reflect on their views and the challenges they face in today's world. - Engage in meaningful ways for their protection and building a safe, healthy, and inclusive world. At Compassion Africa Initiative, every day is a celebration of empowerment for a child. This day reminds us that fostering respect, dignity, and opportunity for children isn't just a duty but a shared responsibility. How to join the conversation? -Advocate for child rights. -Volunteer your time to mentor or support a child. -Create places where children can feel seen, heard, and valued. Let's ensure that every child knows their voice counts and their future is bright. #UniversalChildrensDay #UNICEF

Habitat Forum (INHAF) invites you for a webinar on Child and City: Are, Cities as they Grow and Develop, Fair to Children? on 22nd August 2024 at 6 PM IST. INHAF's webinar series explores cities from various perspectives like low-cost housing, water supply, and energy. The upcoming webinar will focus on evaluating cities through the lens of children's rights. Beginning with Eglantyne Jebb’s activism in 1919, the child rights movement culminated in the UNCRC in 1989. India ratified the convention in 1992 and parallelly formulated policies like the Juvenile Justice Act and RTE Act in alignment with UNCRC principles. Despite significant strides like the establishment of ChildLine, challenges persist, with urbanization impacting children negatively. Cities lack child-friendly infrastructure, posing risks. It's imperative to prioritize children, involving citizens in planning for a better future. It's time to act with empathy and expertise to ensure a safer, more inclusive environment for children. Rethinking Cities Webinar Series: 119 Date: 22nd August 2024 Time: 6 PM IST Registration Link: https://lnkd.in/gqexP6b9

The way a society cares for and nurtures its children is a direct reflection of its values, priorities, and sense of justice. Mandela’s words remind us that fostering and supporting children is not just an individual act of kindness but a societal responsibility. By nurturing the next generation, we are actively shaping the future and moving toward a more equitable and just society. When we invest in children's well-being, ensuring they have access to education, love, and opportunities, we lay the foundation for a fairer world, where everyone has the chance to thrive. #SupportTheNextGeneration #InvestInChildren #ChildrenAreTheFuture #SocietyAndChildren #NurturingYoungMinds #MandelaWisdom #EqualOpportunitiesForAll #FutureLeaders #JusticeAndEquity #CareForChildren #ChildhoodMatters #BuildingABetterWorld #LoveAndOpportunity #EducationForAll #CreatingABrightFuture #chrysaliscareinitiative

Children’s rights are human rights❤️ Children have the right to survive, learn, and be protected, to have their voices taken into account, and to influence the laws and policies which affect their lives and futures🌟 But right now, escalating war and violence, and the devastating impact of the climate crisis mean, life for children is extremely tough. Children’s rights are being eroded and neglected. Inequality is growing. ❌1 in 6 children are growing up in conflict ❌400 million children of primary school age cannot read or write ❌12 million girls marry before the age of 18 every year ❌1 million child deaths each year are linked to hunger ❌ 1 billion children are at extreme risk because of the climate crisis This is a CHILD RIGHTS CRISIS. At Save the Children, standing up for children’s rights is our history, present, and future. We’ve been helping children realise their rights for 100 years, and we won't stop now. Today is #WorldChildrensDay! Every year, World's Children Day is celebrated on 20 November, marking the date that the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child was adopted. 💡Fun fact: This year is also the 100th anniversary of the original Declaration of the Rights of the Child, drafted by Save the Children founder Eglantyne Jebb! This document would go on to inspire the current UN convention. This year's World Children's Day theme is 'listen to the future' - an inspiring call to action encouraging all of us to really listen to the voices, views and ideas of children and young people. When we listen to children and take action on what we hear and learn from them, amazing things can happen, from boosting a child's confidence to changing entire systems for the better! At 54 reasons', we're committed to listening and learning from children every day - whether that's through our Young Advisors, our annual Child Voice survey, feedback from program participants, or listening to the children in our home lives. We genuinely love to hear the good, the bad and the challenging - because the more we know, the more we can do. For 100 years, child rights have existed as guidelines for states, corporates, organizations and individuals to act by respecting them. Save the Children continues its tiredless work - as the rights of the child are more vulnerable than ever in today's conflict-torn world. #SaveTheChildren #ChildRights Save the Children International
It has been 100 years since it was accepted that children hold their own rights ❤️ We’re proud that our founder, Eglantyne Jebb, was the first person to articulate this. She shared her vision with the world when she drafted the historic Geneva Declaration of the Rights of the Child, which was endorsed by world leaders in 1924. Despite progress over the past 100 years, today, children’s rights are being eroded and neglected. Children worldwide are facing hunger, poverty, inequality, and discrimination. But children are not giving up. They are fighting to make the world a fairer and safer place for generations to come. “We dream of a world where our rights are not just words on paper but a lived reality. We’re talking about our right to a healthy environment, education, and a chance to thrive.” Xia, 14, the Philippines We have been helping children realise their rights for over 100 years. We will not stop until they are all respected, supported, and protected worldwide💪 Learn more about how we continue to fight for children rights➡ https://lnkd.in/esxSwbMH #100YearsChildRights #ChildRights
