We're here at Ocean Energy Europe OEE24, and Andy Hall has brought some homemade shortbread to welcome the world of marine renewables to the Highlands.
One of our first visitors was actually a local shortbread connoisseur, Stuart Black of Highlands and Islands Enterprise.
He seemed quite pleased with it!
There is plenty more, so please do drop round for a handmade taste of this local delicacy, stand 28.

👏 City of Tallinn thanked the cooperation partners of the European Green Capital, with whom a large number of projects have been implemented.
On this occasion, Mayor Mihhail Kõlvart handed over letters of thanks to cooperation partners, and Robert Kitt, the head of Utilitas Tallinn, was receiving it from our side.
👏 The joint venture established last year between the City of Tallinn and OÜ Utilitas will implement the agreed investment plan, with a strong emphasis on the development of an environmentally friendly district heating system. We will invest in wastewater and seawater heat pumps, which will help us bring the share of natural gas use below 10% of the total volume by 2027 at the latest, reducing our dependence on imported fossil fuels. In addition, we will replace all old non-pre-insulated district heating pipelines with modern solutions by 2035, as a result of which heat losses will be reduced to less than 10%.

The North Sea, nestled between the coasts of Norway, Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and the United Kingdom, is a dynamic maritime region steeped in natural beauty and economic significance. Characterized by its chilly waters and changing weather patterns, the North Sea serves as a vital ecosystem supporting diverse marine life, including fish like cod and herring crucial to regional fisheries.
Beyond its ecological role, the North Sea is a hub of economic activity, particularly in oil and gas production. Offshore drilling platforms dot its waters, extracting valuable resources that have fueled Europe's energy needs for decades. The region also boasts bustling ports and shipping lanes vital for trade between European nations and beyond.
Culturally, the North Sea has influenced art, literature, and folklore throughout history, with its coastal communities blending traditional fishing practices with modern industries. Today, conservation efforts strive to balance economic interests with environmental sustainability, ensuring the North Sea remains a vibrant and resilient ecosystem for future generations.

The RRS Sir David Attenborough has departed Rothera for the last time this season, marking the start of our winter season and the end of another year of exciting science!
We couldn't possibly list all of the amazing things that happened this season but some highlights include:
🧊 Sailing around an iceberg twice the size of London
🍞 Using three tonnes of flour to make bread at Rothera
🐳 Counting lots of (hungry) humpback whales
🔋 Installing new solar and battery technology to reduce carbon emissions at Bird Island
🛫 Upgrading our runway at Rothera
Thank you to our amazing teams that make all this possible 💗
