When did we start the 40-hour work week? 🔎 Wait for it........ ...in 1926 - one hundred years ago, one century ago!!!! whaaaat 🫠 (1926: Henry Ford popularized the 40-hour work week after discovering through research that working more yielded only a small increase in productivity, and only for a short period of time.) And here we are in 2025, with leaders like Elon Musk (currently working on a self-driving car - ironic huh?) pushing us to return to the office full time. Amazon, Goldman Sachs, and Dell are following his example. On the other hand, leaders from Spotify, Pinterest, and Dropbox are saying, we won’t treat our staff like children, they can choose where to work from. I believe the answer lies somewhere in the middle. We can’t ignore the power of a well-designed workplace, nor the importance of choice. Statistically, people are accepting lower pay for more flexibility. Freedom, after all, is hard to buy. Either way, it’s time to rethink how we work and where we work. The UK’s four-day work week trial started its second phase just a month ago. Which I find very exciting and can't wait to hear about the results next summer... Could this be a step toward the future of work? https://lnkd.in/etu5bsfC

A small business may not be able to compete on wages, but maybe some outside of the box thinking about benefits might make them the first choice for employees?

I've had to think a lot about my children's education recently and what the world will look like in 15 - 20 years. Here are some of the questions I'm stuck on: 1) Will we see a second coming of vocational schools, maybe just a much higher level? Like ITT Tech for AI or biotechnology if that doesn't already exist. There was a 16% rise in students pursuing trade schools last year which makes sense given the cost of higher education. 2. Considering the change in work-day structure, will the school day structure also change? Steve Cohen is investing in golf courses because he thinks the 4 day work week will be the new normal. What does this mean for the M-F, 8-3 school day? School was meant to prepare kids for a working adult day, but now that's not a thing, work and life just sort of blend together. 3) continuing with that, if in 10 years we live in a largely automated world, where technology has pretty much removed most of the "busy work" of life and we end up with even more time...how are we teaching kids to utilize free time productively? Maybe this is a NYC thing but will hyper scheduled kids freak out when the concept of the work week just goes away? I almost feel like the earlier kids get comfortable managing their own time the better off they'll be. 4) It seems like employers are looking less at academic credentials and more at what people have actually done. So, should kids be working on multi-disciplinary projects that demonstrate problem solving, logic and creativity INSTEAD of what feels like a could be a competition to be the best dressed person on the titanic. Really curious as to what people think about this. #education

Four day work week. Fluff or foundational? Listen to hear about our results. Last year we ran an experiment. We took the last couple of months of the summer and instituted a four day work week. How did it go? Great. This year, starting May 1st, we are on a four day work week until September. Next year, it may be permanent. Even at a time where we are growing and demand is strong, we have been able to go to a fdww without losing a step. How? 1) Through our commitment to great culture 2) Due to our objective of 100% happy customers 3) By leveraging technology at every point in our business Happy people produce happy customers. You can do it too, and this is from a skeptic. #Sagecre #Sageintacct #bangertdeployment #fourdayworkweek

4 day work week, 3 day, 1 week off, 1 month off, 1 year off? I've worked with entrepreneurs at all stages of business and the ones who take time off have systems in place to do so. They've got a team or chatbot that can answer questions while they're out. They have marketing materials going out all the time that build their list and sell to them. They have a support system so if something happens that they don't know how to handle, they can get through it. They set up SOPs so they're not needed and can be off without their business grinding to a halt. I know with all the AI talk, you might be wondering how you can use AI to take time off, to work less, or even to simplify your day. The first step is to evaluate what you already have in place and then come up with a strategic plan so you're not trying to do everything at once (and getting nowhere). That method is like going on a roadtrip out of Kansas but because you continue to change the destination... you're driving in circles and never actually make it out of Kansas. Need help evaluating where you can add in AI tools and systems, and where you need to fix some gaps before adding in anything new? Need help figuring out what steps to take and in which order? Message me "GET OUT OF KANSAS" and I'll send over my 4-Day Work Week Prep Checklist when I'm back in the office. :) (And when I finish setting up my ManyChat for this, it'll happen immediately haha)
