From food for thought from the good folks at Future of Good: "Leadership of charitable organizations unlikely to fully reflect those they serve: survey. A recent survey by Carlton University’s Charity Insights Canada Project has found only 18 per cent of respondent charities have leadership that fully reflects the communities they serve. A further 30 per cent said their leadership “moderately” represents their clients, while 28 per cent of charities described their leadership as “somewhat” representative of the demographics they work with. Another 18 per cent indicated their leadership was “minimally” representative. Some charities that participated in the survey elaborated on their answers with comments like, “We’re really, really small” or “We hire who we can get, not much choice in rural Canada." Research has consistently found that white people predominately fill leadership roles at Canada non-profits in Canada. According to a 2023 study by CivicAction and the Diversity Institute, only 18.2 per cent of leadership roles at Ontario non-profits are held by racialized people. As a result, we receive lower-quality products at higher prices or brands like 𝗖𝗼𝗰𝗮𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗮, which funds to kill. If we truly care about humanity, we shouldn't approach this issue from a purely professional standpoint (many practitioners discussing how to save companies like Coke and others, which is saddening). Instead, we should support the movement. Because today the sufferers are them maybe tomorrow it might be us.

Today is the last day to vote for Surgify as the Path Maker in product development. But I’m not just gonna ask you to vote. I’m gonna tell you WHY you should vote for us. Being part of the development team of Surgify, I’ve seen the birth and development of our product since the early days. Hard to really say what sets us apart from others from the insider perspective, but if I had to single one out, I would say it’s our user centric approach. Before we even set pen to paper, we first find out how we can really help our users, the surgeons in the surgery room, with our technology. Then, as soon as we have a testable prototype, we test our new product with the surgeons and refine the design to better match their needs. But the iteration doesn’t end there as we also have to satisfy our own stringent requirements. We try to simulate different cutting scenarios and situations where our device would contact soft tissue. We test, test, and test some more. And only release a product when we are certain that it would satisfy all the needs and safety requirements. And that’s one reason that makes us a Path Maker in product development.

The Carleton University Charity Insights Canada Project continues to offer intriguing data about the country's #charitable sector. In a recent installment, the survey asked #charities what aspect of their organization has been most affected by economic trends, along with the type of support that could help them address #inflation-related challenges. On the latter question, respondents mentioned additional core funding, public awareness to boost contributions and greater flexibility of foundation grants. The survey is a useful real-time tool to gauge trends impacting our sector.
