Our #Veterans Service Organizations are great at connecting veterans to their earned benefits...at no cost, by the way. That's just one piece of the pie, though. Our #Membership and #Programs troubles are complex, and this episode focuses on just one "value add" we can apply to our membership that could benefit both the veteran and the organization. On top of that, it can complete the pie! :) Mmmmmm...pie. Earlier this week I talked about wishing younger veterans could experience some of the things I do with Marine Corps League Jack Maas Detachment. I have said it a few times, I am in the Marine Corps League because of my detachment and how amazing they are, but I completely understand why younger veterans are not often found in these veteran organizations. I often hear veteran organizations complain or question why younger veterans aren't involved. The reason is simple, they refuse to adapt or change. Here is my list of other reasons I have noticed. 1. Not inclusive to all veterans. Don't feel welcomed. 2. Don't want to spend time away from their family. 3. Don't want to just sit, drink and smoke. 4. Don't want to sit in a meeting. 5. Don't want to maintain a 'uniform', or read a pages and pages of rules. 6. The amount of religious talk involved in the official events and meetings. 7. Don't have the time or energy. 8. Only actively recruiting for one 'type' of veteran. 9. Asked to do too much too soon. What else would you add to the list or what should we discuss further? #BluntBartley

So, VFW/American Legion can be perceived as “The Old Folks Home”. As GEN-X Nexus VI; they were basically Silent Generation/Greatest-Generation (Pre-Boomer) Vets (WWII). Or, so the perception in the ‘60s, ‘70’s, ‘80s, ‘90s. As Uncle Sam’s Misguided Child Tab Bartley points out: PUT-EYES-ON-THE-TARGET, Adapt, Receive New Information, Perform an INTEL Analysis premised upon empirically observed FACTS.

We get to sleep like a baby with little worry about our country being attacked. This little-appreciated fact is because of the sacrifices of military veterans. A quote from the Department Of Defense website: "Veterans Day honors all of those who have served the country in war or peace — dead or alive — although it’s largely intended to thank living veterans for their sacrifices." ► If you know a vet, reach out and express appreciation. ► Take a minute to connect meaningfully...not just "lip service". ► We have what we have in this country because of the sacrifices of veterans. +++++++++ Interested in a strategy for website content? DM me and let's talk about it.
