Before we became local everywhere, 6AM City’s CEO and cofounder, Ryan Johnston, began his journey in the hallways of Clemson University. After graduating with his degree in Management and Entrepreneurship in 2003, his career led him to reinvent local news in a way that would tangibly reach communities through positivity. I started the Male Mogul Initiative in 2016 while working on the West Side of Chicago. I met a young man who made a significant impression on me. He was a promising basketball player with strong academic credentials. He had a scholarship lined up for college. This might sound reductive, but to put it bluntly, he was a good kid - a great kid. He also sold drugs. He felt he needed to do so to provide for himself and his family. The impact of this meeting on me was substantial and provided the genesis for the Male Mogul Initiative. The root cause of this young man's problem was not an inability to thrive or a deficit of character. It was a lack of exposure and access to responsible options to thrive and provide, and as a result, he found himself on a dangerous and immoral path. Hundreds, if not thousands, of these young individuals are on Chicago's South and West Sides. Unfortunately, the youth in these communities are not proximate to many positive role models or good examples. This is what I set out to address with the Male Mogul Initiative: to provide direction to good students through mentorship programs. Because they deserve it. As our organization has grown, our mission has remained the same, but the mechanics through which we prepare our participants have evolved. Today (and for the last few years), we emphasize entrepreneurship and business education as central topics within all of our programs. We believe in our participants. We encourage them to utilize their intelligence and creativity to develop business ideas. From there, we provide the guidance and expertise to create a sustainable and economically viable plan for their products or services. We now own and operate a creative warehouse (our Co-LLAB space), within which our Moguls are developing and producing exceptional merchandise. We don't just mentor our participants to be the best versions of themselves (though, of course, we do that as well). We teach them how to hustle. We guide them to leverage their creativity and be pillars of positive business and social examples within their communities. Head to our new website to learn more about our mission, our progress, and our programs. Link in the comments below. 👇🏾

Townhall, what? A conversation starter is what we call it. So, our founders missed us just too much and started a conversation. “Let’s have a long chit-chat so please make yourselves comfortable and sit on your favourite spots. But just make sure you can see us” And that's how we jolted into the most epic talk sesh of the year 2024 with our founders. It was indeed the conversation that we wanted to have, the words that we needed to hear. Our townhall turned into a mix of strategy and spontaneity, with the blend of short-term goals and long-term dreams guiding us forward. After listening to all the HODs, we gained a clear vision of our expectations for the future. Our discussion went beyond our organization, to be honest. Why? Unlike other townhalls that focus solely on the company's end goals, ours also delved into how many of us aspire to become the next big entrepreneurs. So, here's to more townhalls, more conversations, and the continued pursuit of greatness – not just for our organisation, but for each individual dreamer looking to make a mark. The townhall isn't just a moment; it's a stepping stone towards the incredible future we envision together. Until the next epic talk, stay inspired! #Townhall #FunTime #LifeAtEM #EM #EMotorad

Hey fam! 🌟 Michael Berhane shared some electrifying news about empowerment, innovation, and community upliftment. 🚀🙌🏾 A squad of visionary Black entrepreneurs are rewriting the narrative in Chicago’s South Shore with “The Xchange,” a $40M high-rise development project that’s set to transform lives and landscapes. 🏙️💫 What’s lit about this project is not just the bricks and mortar; it’s their pledge to keep rents affordable, ensuring that the folks in the community don't get pushed out but instead get to rise up with this development. 🏡✊🏾 But wait, there’s more! They’re integrating architecture, development, and entrepreneurship programs specifically designed for our young kings and queens, equipping them with the tools to build their future, right in their own backyard. 🎓🔨 This is more than a development; it’s a movement. A movement that says we can create spaces that reflect our values, support our people, and invest in our youth. 🌱🖤 Let’s spread the word, support this incredible initiative, and keep pushing for projects that put our communities first. Because when we lift each other up, there’s no limit to how high we can soar. 🚀👑 #TheXchange #CommunityEmpowerment #BlackEntrepreneurs #FutureIsBright
Five Black entrepreneurs are behind “The Xchange,” a $40M high-rise development project in Chicago’s South Shore neighborhood. The project aims to put the community first, with plans to offer competitive rent and integrate architecture, development, and entrepreneurship programs to benefit local youth. “We’re gonna keep rent competitive to what’s already there in the area... We’re not trying to rent gouge. We want this development to be for the community.”

Fridays are all about the wins! 🎉 A recent win of mine? Writing an impactful article to celebrate Black History Month for Venture for Canada. You see, a lot of businesses probably posted during Black History Month just because. But at VFC, they actually walk the talk. This article showcases Black-owned small businesses in Canada that are making a difference and tied to the VFC community. Thanks to Alexia Baha who helped us narrow them down! These businesses have been instrumental in honing real-world entrepreneurial skills for VFC’s students through their Internship and Intrapreneurship Programs. 🙏🏼 BrainSTEM Alliance, Impact Toolbox, Chibie Louis-Okoye (who owns COLO Studios), Hidden Gemz, and Tribe Network By writing this article I got to put my research hat on and pull some stats around Black-owned businesses in Canada, learn more about these amazing entrepreneurs, and share the importance of supporting Black-owned businesses. ❤️ What’s one of your wins for this week? 🤔

Shout-out to Robyn Jackson, Mindsteps, who is currently enrolling a PILE of new clients into her flagship program—and delivering on her promises for school principals. When Robyn first came to work with us, she was at a crossroads. Her program was getting great results, but she'd hit a ceiling and didn't know how to serve MORE people. She'd looked at the membership models that were out there...and (womp womp) didn't really like them. For one, the memberships she'd seen weren't really that great at getting results. 🙄 For two, her customers really liked working with HER. 👸🏽 ❤️ And while her *team* was great, there didn't seem to be a way they could take that load off her plate. So she sought our help at Visionary CEO Academy, and here's what she did: - Audited & simplified her current model even further - Got her team to streamline their processes - Upgraded the delivery into a High-Value Hybrid Now, she's no longer the bottleneck. 🎉 Her team is taking on more responsibility, and doing their jobs better. (She didn't even need to hire!) They doubled their enrollment, and her clients are getting better results than ever. Want some help in scaling your business? Hit me up in the DMs and let's make a plan for how to do it. 🙌🏻 #scalingbusiness #scalingup #businessgrowth #entrepreneurship #businessgrowth

T, my 9-year-old, made me Chief Marketing Officer for his new business.💖 We're still working on the name, branding and marketing (I better start working). He's part of the Acton Academy Silicon Valley Children’s Business Fair with 70 other kidpreneurs on May 18th. He said, "Mom, I want to hire you. Here's why: 👇 1. Most arcades get too loud and overwhelming for kids. 2. I want to change that with my calm and fun arcade that tests brain skills. 3. I need your help to find my first customers. 4. For every customer, I’ll give you a hug, and I won’t ask you to leave my hands near my friends." I had to say YES. So, as of today, I have a new job. His pitch emotionally connected with me, and he is trying to solve a very real problem most parents would relate to. Come support T and other kidpreneurs on May 18th at Redwood City Courthouse Square, and see how kids are learning real-world skills in entrepreneurship. P.S. Please REPOST this with friends and family. P.P.S. If you are in the bay area, join us to support the next generation of builders and founders. #entrepreneurship #kidpreneurship #Kidpreneurs #bayarea #siliconvalley
