In wake of Hurricane Helene's aftermath, our team launched a campaign to support our Western North Carolina communities, successfully raising $21,910 and surpassing our $20,000 goal. These funds have been given to BeLoved Asheville to aid their work in providing essential resources for regional recovery efforts. We’re proud of our team for exemplifying our core principles of Doing. Positive. Service. We’re especially grateful for their quick response—those who coordinated the campaign, the editors who spread the word amid their own recovery. #BeLovedAsheville #6AMCity #HurricaneHeleneAftermath #DoingPositiveService #HurricaneRelief #NorthCarolina #WakeUpLocal

Based in North Carolina, our hearts are heavy with the unprecedented destruction faced by our western counties due to Hurricane Helene. Despite the valiant efforts of first responders, the National Guard, utility teams, and relief personnel, many of the most severely affected areas are still isolated, struggling to access necessities like gas, food, water, electricity, and phone service. The impact has also been felt deeply in Virginia, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida where communities have suffered immense damage. Although our facilities were unharmed, it's certain that we all know someone—a colleague, friend, family member, neighbor or client—affected by this tragedy. Confronted with such overwhelming hardship and loss, deciding how best to offer support can be challenging. Yet by coming together in solidarity, we can create positive change. We encourage you to stand with Alcami in contributing to the North Carolina Disaster Relief Fund to assist our neighbors through their extensive recovery process. Alternatively, if there's a trusted non-profit you're already connected with that provides relief services, consider making a donation directly to them or look into supporting organizations like the American Red Cross or Salvation Army. Let’s keep these communities close to our hearts and do everything within our power to support them as they rebuild. We have been closely monitoring the effects of Hurricane Helene across the Southeast and in particular western North Carolina. Many of us at the Foundation have deeply personal connections with this part of our state, and the devastation has been hard to process. We have been able to contact some community partners in the region, and they are in the process of performing a needs assessment for how best to provide support at this time. What we know: there are services on the ground that are tending to the immediate relief needs of those impacted. What we also know: recovery is going to be a months-long effort, at least. People and organizations are going to need our support in the coming weeks to ensure that residents of these areas are taken care of. As with any crisis or disaster that affects a part of our state or country outside our region, we rely on and refer to our community foundation partners that are best-equipped to know the nonprofits on the ground providing important relief and recovery efforts. As soon as supports are in place we will share them.

Based in North Carolina, our hearts are heavy with sorrow as we witness the unprecedented destruction Hurricane Helene has brought upon our western counties. Despite the valiant efforts of first responders, the National Guard, utility teams, and relief personnel, the most severely affected areas are still isolated, struggling to access necessities like gas, food, water, electricity, and cell service. Although our facilities were not damaged, many of us have colleagues, friends, relatives, neighbors, and clients who have suffered losses. Confronted with such immense hardship and loss, it can be challenging to identify how best to offer support. However, by coming together in solidarity we can create positive change. The images over the last few weeks from Hurricane Helene and the devastating impacts the storm has had on the communities of Western North Carolina, and the nearby states of Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia have demonstrated the critical need for communities to support each other in times of crisis. As members of the transportation community, we regularly rise to the occasion when crises occur to our people or to the infrastructure that we maintain so people can go about their daily lives. In this time of great need in these states, we ask that you rise to the occasion again and consider contributing to organizations helping in the recovery and rebuilding of communities in Western North Carolina and all of the states experiencing the devastating events of the last few weeks. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by Hurricane Helene, especially our neighbors in Western North Carolina and Upstate South Carolina. The storm has left behind a trail of destruction and catastrophic flooding, and many communities continue to face immense challenges. This is a time for our community to unite and support those in need, and we are deeply inspired by the efforts already underway. In response, The Leon Levine Foundation is committing $5 million to aid both immediate relief and long-term recovery efforts. These funds will ensure that essential resources like food, water, and shelter are quickly provided to those who need them most. We have already distributed an initial $1 million grant to the COMMUNITY FOUNDATION OF WESTERN NORTH CAROLINA, INC (CFWNC) to support its Emergency and Disaster Response Fund, which is assisting relief efforts across 18 counties. Additionally, we have provided additive unrestricted support to all of our existing partners in Western NC to help address urgent financial needs.
