#MWC24, Mobile World Congress 2024, wrapped up a few days ago in Barcelona, Spain, and it was packed! Here are some of our key takeaways: ✨ Unsurprisingly, Artificial Intelligence (AI) was a major theme. The event highlighted how telecoms cannot afford to miss out on this transformative technology. The discussion emphasized the importance of skills development and company culture to successfully implement AI solutions. ✨ The event also showcased the growing importance of Autonomous Networks (AN) in the evolving telecom landscape. ANs offer significant benefits for telecoms, including improved network reliability, operational efficiency, and scalability. ✨ Sustainability was a major focus as well. Discussions centered around reducing energy consumption in mobile networks, particularly the energy-intensive Radio Access Network (RAN). Techniques like sleep modes and software algorithms are being actively explored to achieve this goal. The 6G Symposium in Washington, D.C. is abuzz with discussions on the future business models and uses of 6G networks, as industry experts grapple with the slow returns from 5G. 🧐 Chris Christou, SVP at Booz Allen, emphasized the need for upgradable networks and the integration of new technologies while leveraging existing 5G infrastructure. Tyrell Junius, co-founder and COO of Tiami Networks stressed the importance of simplifying 6G, particularly if it incorporates Open RAN, to ensure its profitability.
