If they are considering the HPSP program, I really ask them why they want to do the HPSP program. I honestly think that doing it solely for the scholarship is not the right reason to do it. I think people should do it because they want the opportunity to be in the military and serve in that capacity. I think if you go into it thinking that like, oh, this is just a great way to pay for medical school, you're not really thinking it all the way through and realizing the whole commitment. And part of that is because, you know, people don't know enough. I didn't know enough to even ask the right questions. You know, basically all I was initially told was, ohh, if you get a four year scholarship, you owe the Army four years. If you get a three-year scholarship, you owe them three years. You know, I mean, it can be if you don't want to go to a residency and you just want to serve as a General Medical officer. I think in general, if there's somebody who actually has a desire to be a part of the military and one former fashion, than HPSP is definitely the way to go.
