Last week our friends at The Salvation Army Project 614 Melbourne picked up a van load of groceries and other essentials for people doing it tough thanks to our Product team. It has been another difficult year, particularly for those already experiencing hardship. To date The Salvation Army across Australia has experienced a sharp increase in demand across its services and they are anticipating even greater demand over Christmas. Major Brendan Nottle, The Salvation Army Australia Project 614 Commanding Officer said: “Being able to provide access to essential food and grocery items as well as some treats gives people in need not only support to get through what is a very challenging time for many, but also the understanding that they are being seen and cared about by others. This is critically important in helping find a new beginning.” Our Product team have been working hard on extending our product range, particularly in food and grocery, as part our ambition to be My Convenient Neighbourhood Store - providing the right range of products, at the right price, when and where our customers want them. They test and try new products, new ranges, and see how they fit into our layouts using real product samples. Inevitably, this means we end up with products we need to find use for. 7-Eleven CEO and Managing Director, Fiona Hayes said: “by working with The Salvation Army to redirect any leftover samples or excess stock we are able to support their work to give people some joy and comfort this Christmas. A huge thanks to our Product team for making this donation possible, and to The Salvation Army for all their work to support the neighbourhoods we serve.”

PACK Savannah is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides weekend food packs to over 4,600 food-insecure children in Savannah and the surrounding areas. They also have two smaller programs that support foster children and children in crisis. These videos will do a much better job of introducing PACK and Malena, its founder. https://lnkd.in/eijqB6jQ https://lnkd.in/ePbKwYkh https://lnkd.in/e3CvBnHp When we first met, Malena said to me, "[Our mutual friend] says you want to help us feed children. How do we start?" That was Monday, 2/5, and we have been busy since. PACK's biggest challenge has been sharp increases in food costs. Because her food pack is unique compared to what many food pantries typically provide to families, only about 10% of PACK's total food can be sourced from the local food bank. She's recently experienced high triple-digit cost increases in several food categories, so I have been arranging alternative suppliers to help reduce costs in line with previous levels. Today, we placed our first order for six pallets of juice boxes. This would have cost PACK $9,000 recently, but we were able to place this order for $5,040 shipped. We also identified a supplier for individual snacks (e.g., cookies, nutritional bars) at more than 50% estimated savings and no more precious time wasted making trips to local Sam's. These savings will go a long way toward stabilizing the organization's financial health. Unfortunately, PACK is critically under-capitalized at the moment due to recent price hikes, and it would take 2-3 months before our current cost-cutting efforts and fundraising initiatives get us on solid footing again. Please consider donating to PACK to allow us to continue our operations without interruption. $200 feeds a child for 52 weekends, but any amount of support would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. https://lnkd.in/ek5QmmQb -> Click 'Donate Now'. #nonprofit #childhunger #foodsecurity

We have been spoiled rotten by food delivery service options. The pandemic increased our reliance on a plethora of options delivered right to our door steps. There are many additional expenses including the delivery fee, tip and now the inflationary increase in grocery and gasoline prices. DAY 12 CHALLENGE Don’t DASH your money away with convenience. It's not all bad. Having your groceries delivered might actually save you time and money because you're sticking to a list. However, having your favorite takeout delivered several times a week could wreck your budget. You really should "count the cost". #sheknewtherewasmore #dianesheart #mindset #coaching #nonprofit #sisterhood #singlemoms #community #moneymanagement TAKE ACTION: Simply like, comment, add reels to our posts or tag us in yours!

According to Trussell, in the last year a staggering 3.1 million emergency food parcels were provided by food banks in our community to people facing hardship across the UK. The level of need at food banks continues to grow, as people simply don’t have enough money to get by. This Christmas and New Year your local food banks will be giving out emergency supplies to more people than ever before. At a time of the year when people should be excited about opening presents, there will be many families who have very little to look forward to. That is why Agents Giving are urging estate and letting agents, and property industry suppliers, to support our Christmas Stocking Campaign again for this year. Help spread some Christmas and New Year cheer by filling a stocking or bag full of goodies to donate to your local food bank, meaning in addition to the basic food parcel contents those in need will receive the extras that everyone loves at and deserves this Christmas. Some chocolates and sweet treats are a real luxury if people are trying to manage financially. During what is likely to be the most challenging winter our food bank network has ever faced, please help make sure Trussell can be there for everyone who needs us. The soaring cost of living means more and more people are being forced to use food banks. The kindness of your donations really help to make a difference to those receiving these treats. Celebrating the forthcoming delivery of $580 cash and two overflowing boxes of non-perishable food, household staples, and feminine products to the local women’s/family shelter. The Girls on the Run team I coach raised all this in a hard-won 2-hour bake sale and lemonade stand outside our local supermarket. We do not live in a big, wealthy city. There are two grocery stores total: a WalMart and this one. That's to say: most people walking in and out of this particular store are on a budget. A real, important, and non-negotiable one. And yet: Our (seemingly insurmountable) goal was $500 and food to donate. Last season, we raised over $300, and even that number was honestly shocking to both us and the shelter. We thought we’d set a moon-level goal this spring, never expecting we’d hit it. And we did more than that. This $580 and food PLUS extras is BIG. Well over goal. I saw firsthand people who obviously didn’t have a lot say, “Keep the change.” Or, more often, they'd just hand over what extra they had, take nothing off the table, and keep walking. My takeaways: -The world feels big and hard lately because it is, but there are kind people everywhere. Do what you need to do to find and celebrate them. -Success is yours to define. Think big, keep perspective, and choose wisely.

This time of year, for those of us fortunate enough to possess items we don't use that are too good to throw out, is a good time to clear out those items. Especially clothes, shoes, toys, books, games, blankets and Christmas related goods like lights, trees or tinsel. I personally donated a whole bunch of stuff in October/November. Charities will happily put them up for sale giving access to those items to people less fortunate, to whom being able to afford such items might make a real difference, it might even make a child feel a little bit less left-out this Christmas. This extends to unused gifts of toiletries being donated to food banks. And if you can, when spending £200 on cheap tat stocking fillers for people who don't really need them, (That's you, lady at QD taking 20min to go through the checkout) spare a thought for those who might have to wear extra clothes and use their heating sparingly, or not able to cover a Christmas food shop, let alone splurge on chocolate and cheap plastic bric-a-brac. It's not always entirely their fault. Sometimes poor business decisions by their employers, sometimes severe illness or death of a breadwinner in the family and a myriad of other circumstances. I'm not really religious, but the saying: "But for the grace of God, there go I!" has always stuck with me. This isn't a post intended to pee on your yule log folks. It's just a CTA to reflect on your humanity in the true spirit of the season. Happy Holidays folks 🌲⛄❄️🎄🎁🧑🎄🦌🛷

Now that we’ve reached the middle of April, I wanted to share a reminder about Walmart’s 11th annual “Fight Hunger, Spark Change” campaign, which continues through the end of the month. This campaign sees Walmart working alongside customers, members, and suppliers to benefit food banks in communities around the country – food insecurity is something many Americans face every day, and this program can help! There are three easy ways for customers and members to participate during the campaign: Purchase FHSC participating products in-store or online*: 1 item purchased at Walmart = 1 meal secured on behalf of a local Feeding America food bank 1 item purchased at Sam’s Club= 5 meals secured on behalf of a local Feeding America food bank. Donate at check-out in any Walmart store, Sam’s Club or when shopping on Walmart.com or the Walmart app and support the local Feeding America food bank. Donate online at https://lnkd.in/g7cEjb7k Please consider donating to a cause that makes such a difference for people in need across the U.S. #TeamWalmart #FightHungerSparkChange

I've been paying more close attention to my calendar these past two months. The countdown is now in its last stages with 23 days until blastoff... figuratively speaking. At 77 years of age one might think that leaving a safe secure happy home to fly once again across the vastness of time and the Pacific Ocean would not be about to occur but yet is. Downsizing this time is severe. One large suitcase, one carryon and one backpack limit the clothes and accessories I can take as I depart to a different life in a small country that sits astride the Equator: our plans are to be gone 2-3 years minimum with another 3-5 years probable. These past two months have been more and more filled with the tasks that are needed to be completed for the departure scheduled June 4, 2024. Packing has been a big part of these weeks as closets are emptied, boxes and suitcases filled and bags and bags of clothes and other possessions are donated to charities. It is always starting to me to not just see but to touch and move all the things that have been acquired and now are being either put away or given away: there is a feeling of peace and a quality of calm that results from downsizing.

While commendable in its intent, the collaborative initiative between Nestlé UK & Ireland and Arla Foods UK to donate breakfast provisions to FareShare UK warrants critical examination from various academic perspectives. Firstly, the framing of the initiative as a philanthropic endeavor by the companies involved may obscure underlying motivations, such as enhancing brand reputation or garnering positive publicity. This raises questions about the authenticity and long-term sustainability of the partnership beyond its immediate impact. Furthermore, the focus on providing breakfasts to vulnerable and disadvantaged individuals highlights broader systemic issues of food insecurity and poverty in the UK. While such charitable efforts provide short-term relief, they do not address the root causes of food poverty or contribute to structural solutions that address income inequality and access to affordable, nutritious food. The reliance on corporate donations to address societal challenges like hunger also raises concerns about the role of businesses in social welfare provision. Critics may argue that such initiatives can serve to absolve governments of their responsibility to address systemic issues through policy interventions and public investment in social services. Moreover, the absence of transparency regarding the specific terms and conditions of the partnership, including the duration and scope of the donation, limits the ability to assess its effectiveness and accountability. Academic scrutiny should extend to evaluating the impact of such initiatives on the communities they purport to serve, including considerations of cultural sensitivity, dignity, and empowerment. In conclusion, while collaborative efforts between corporations and charitable organizations to address food insecurity are laudable, critical analysis is necessary to interrogate the underlying dynamics, motivations, and implications of such initiatives within broader socio-economic contexts. It is essential to move beyond surface-level narratives of corporate social responsibility to engage in deeper discussions about systemic change and equitable solutions to food poverty.
We’ve joined forces with Arla Foods UK to donate the equivalent of 1.25 million breakfasts to FareShare UK. We’re providing Shreddies and Arla is providing Cravendale milk to help build breakfasts for organisations supporting vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the UK. This donation has been made possible by the team at our factory in Staverton who have come together to produce the additional stock which will make a difference to thousands of families across the UK. Andrew Shaw, Supply Chain Director at Nestlé UK & Ireland, said: "We know just how important the first of meal of the day is, but in the current climate more and more people are starting the day with an empty stomach. That’s why we wanted to work with Arla and FareShare to provide breakfast to those who need it most. I’m really proud of the invaluable work that my colleagues have put in to make this donation a reality." To date, our long standing partnership with FareShare has seen us provide the equivalent of more than six million meals. Find out more ➡️ http://spr.ly/6043jaLmV
