Embracing of uncertainty and intellectual humility is the way forward, not just in investing, but life in general~ "There simply is no place for certainty in fields that are influenced by psychological fluctuations, irrationality, and randomness. Politics and economics are two such fields, and investing is another. No one can predict reliably what the future holds in these fields, but many people overrate their ability and attempt to do so nevertheless. Eschewing certainty can keep you out of trouble. I strongly recommend doing so." 'And speaking of the unpredictable, I can’t fail to mention the recent attempt on Donald Trump’s life, an event that could well have had a more grave and impactful result. Even now that it has happened and President Trump has escaped serious injury, no one can state with certainty how it will impact the election (though at present it appears to bolster Trump’s prospects) or the markets. So, if anything, it reinforces my bottom line: making predictions is largely a loser’s game."

The Global Engagement Center, a US body focusing on disinformation, says it has seen its funding request for a multi-year extension of the latest National Defense Authorization Act refused by Republicans. . The Center, known as the GEC, works to tell the world that all narratives are false except the one favored by the Biden administration. . . PROJECTION In particular, the wealthy organization issues documents in multiple languages warning that the world only sees countries such as China and Russia positively, because those nations spend "billions of dollars" to control the worldwide narrative. . This is the precise opposite of the truth, which is that the world sees China and Russia negatively because the US spends billions of dollars to control the global narrative. ("Projection" is announcing that your competitor is doing what you are actually doing.) . Elon Musk in February 2023 said the GEC was "the worst offender in US government censorship & media manipulation". . . GLOBAL SOUTH The Republicans' hostility to the GEC is good news for the 87 per cent of humanity in the global south, and for freedom of speech campaigners worldwide. (But read on to find out why people shouldn't celebrate yet.) . Why are the Republicans and the non-western countries of the world on the same side in this battle? . Because the Republicans, like the Chinese and others, want to stop the inordinate amount of US government control over the narrative pushed by what pretends to be free and impartial media—and particularly the covert nature of the interference. . . INCENSED US citizens who lean right of center are victims of news control operations, just like Chinese and Russian people. . For example, the GEC in 2021 provided US$100,000 in funding for the Global Disinformation Index, which claims to be an impartial agency which tells the people of planet earth that they should not trust non-western narratives OR those in conservative US media. Republicans were incensed. . In fact, the Global Disinformation Index was not impartial at all. It received roughly US$860,000 between 2020 and 2022 from the notorious National Endowment for Democracy (NED). . It was actually a thinly disguised pro-western political operation, like the widely quoted Reporters Without Borders (better known as RSF), which is also funded by the NED. . . MAINSTREAM MEDIA SUPPORT Predictably, the western mainstream media has snapped into action to alsely portray the GEC as good guys. Exploring Parallels in Leadership and Policy In this illustration, I wanted to explore a thought-provoking comparison: Could Donald Trump’s leadership style and policy focus echo Franklin D. Roosevelt’s impact during the New Deal era? 1. Economic Reform & Infrastructure Much like FDR’s New Deal, which reshaped America’s economy through massive public works projects, some see Trump’s emphasis on infrastructure and economic growth as a modern parallel, symbolizing a commitment to revitalize American jobs and industry. 2. Foreign Policy FDR led the U.S. through WWII, with a focus on strong international alliances. Trump’s “America First” approach, on the other hand, has aimed to selectively engage abroad while strengthening U.S. interests. Both approaches are different, yet both aim to protect American interests. 3. Communication and Public Connection FDR’s “Fireside Chats” were an iconic part of his leadership, connecting with Americans in a direct way. Trump’s use of social media has similarly allowed him to communicate directly with his base, breaking traditional norms.
