A few blocks away from Brunelleschi’s dome, you will find a significant 15th century palace, Palazzo Pucci, which once hosted the fortunes of a noble Florentine family and in the 20th century became the home of Emilio Pucci, aristocrat and #innovator, tailor and #sportsman, politician and founder of one of Italy’s most iconic #brands. At the time of the Pucci family’s early fortunes, the manufacture and printing of #textiles represented a major area of growth for the city, as the Medicis produced wool and the Rucellais developed an effective glue for dying fabric. The #renaissance was a by-product of this growth, and the expression of the city’s new wealth, also driven by the first establishment of banks. Differently from other cities, which displayed their power in the verticality of their cathedrals or the massiveness of their public buildings, the economic prosperity of Florence was manifested instead in #color, as seen in the chromatic carousel of jousts, in the use of expensive pigments in painting, in the different tonalities of marble adorning the Cathedral, or in the precision and detail of fabric dyes and prints. The secret of Pucci’s 20th century style, which I am sure you recognize, lies in his ability to retrieve and enliven this tradition in a modern key, not only by connecting color to its Florentine milieu, but also by animating it in a kaleidoscope of surprising waves and natural vibrations. You can learn more about Pucci in my #italianinnovators profile at 👉 bit.ly/innovatorspucci As for his Renaissance milieu, you might find some more context in my latest episode of the show. Did you know the origins of modern leather tooling can be traced back to ancient Hellenistic art? Back then, North African Berbers embraced the intricate arabesque patterns, but due to religious beliefs, were limited to geometric and floral designs. These motifs found their way into artistic leatherwork. Later, these designs were brought to Spain in 700 AD during the Berber invasion. The Spanish refined the intricate leather carving that crossed the Atlantic during the Spanish conquest. By the 1800s, American craftsmen adopted this style, with the most distinguished examples crafted for California’s elite. Thus, the most refined examples became California-style tooling. After that, the Visalia saddle shop set the stage, and craftsmen like Don King uplifted the art into what became known as the Sheridan-style carving. Those saddle houses crafted unique designs, often creating custom tools for the job. Individual carvers added their flair, turning leatherwork into an art imitating art. What started as art for utility has blossomed into an enduring legacy of craftsmanship. Now leatherwork is more than fashion; it’s history, heritage, and art. So, next time you see a finely tooled leather piece, remember: it’s not just a craft. It’s a story stitched through centuries. #leather #art #modernleather

As our December release date approached, we were working tooth and nail to get the concept close enough to something we knew we could produce over the projected nine-month delivery period. We were comfortable leaving some elements of the design open to changes as we knew a lot of challenges awaited us when it came to bringing these pieces to life, but eventually, we zeroed in on what was most important to add to the Bonehead collection and thereafter geared up for launch. @blackbadger #watches #watchmaking #horology #danishdesign #design #blackbadger @robnudds @mrabrandt #engineering #watch #watchindustry #materials #fordite #composites #watchcollecting #watchfam #watchesofinstagram #watchcollector #luxurywatches #luxury #aerospace #aluminum #foam #bonehead #experiments #risk #watchoftheday #horophile #watchlifestyle #fashion #watchphotography #dailywatch

UNIQUE BY NAME, UNIQUE BY DNA! The Darkmoon collection by U-BOAT is enriched with a new specimen that has made its uniqueness its own name. A watch that seems to emerge from the depths of the sea, from unexplored abysses, from places forgotten over time. Always fascinated by vintage objects, with a story to tell and shaped by time, Italo Fontana, designer of U-BOAT, decides to apply this passion of his to the Darkmoon collection, creating a one-of-a-kind 44mm watch: Unico! A bridge between the past and the future, a numbered edition watch that plays with modernity and the stylistic elements of the past. A highly individual creation, a testament to craftsmanship and "handmade," since each piece will always be different from the others. Characterized by a bronze PVD steel case, Unico has received a special manual treatment with various overlapped acids, in order to create an oxidized and antiqued effect that also involved the dial under the high-quality anti-reflective domed sapphire glass. The case is then completely filled with an oil bath, according to the innovative Oil Immersion concept, combined with the compensating bubble and the also domed dial, with black numbers and indices, amplifying the three-dimensional visual effect on the latter and the imperfections, always different, given by oxidation and which make each watch "one of a kind." #watchesandwonders #uboatwatch #darkmoon #italofontana

Vintage ring designs are captivating due to their rich history, intricate craftsmanship, and distinctive styles reflective of different eras. For instance, Victorian rings (1837-1901) often feature ornate designs with romantic motifs like hearts, flowers, and snakes, symbolizing eternal love. Art Nouveau rings (1890-1910) are renowned for their flowing, organic shapes and nature-inspired themes, often incorporating enamel and colorful gemstones. Edwardian rings (1901-1915) highlight filigree work and delicate lace-like patterns, frequently set with diamonds and sapphires. Art Deco rings (1920-1935) are celebrated for their geometric patterns, bold colors, and use of contrasting materials like platinum and onyx. Each of these periods offers a unique glimpse into the past, making vintage rings timeless treasures. #vintagerings #fireandbrilliance
