Happy #WorldBeeDay and congratulations to our partner Stadtbienen (“City Bees”) on their 10-year anniversary! Together, we set up bee boxes with two bee colonies at a school here in Berlin. This program helps to raise awareness and develop an appreciative approach to the environment. Children discover the world of bees, learn about ecological correlations, and understand the importance of #biodiversity. But is a bustling city like #Berlin an appropriate habitat for #bees? Absolutely! Urban areas can offer diverse food sources for bees due to the variety of flowers found in parks, gardens, and on balconies. While the countryside provides vast natural spaces, urban environments often present a broader range of plant species, offering bees a rich and varied diet. Concerns about urban honey being less healthy due to pollution are unfounded as studies have shown that honey from #citybees is just as nutritious and safe as honey from rural bees. Moreover, some people are concerned that urban bees might be dangerous. However, when managed properly, bees are generally non-aggressive and pose little threat to humans. Everyone can contribute to protecting bees and other pollinators. Planting different species of flowers in your garden or on your balcony and putting a flat bowl of water outside for the bees to drink and cool down are simple ways to help. At CLR, we are proud to #BeeEngaged and support urban #beekeeping initiatives. The UN World Bee Day reminds us that everyone can make a difference to support, restore, and enhance the role of bees. #citybees #Stadtbienen #WorldBeeDay2024 #sustainability #csr

🐝🌍 Happy World Bee Day! 🌍🐝 Today, we celebrate our tiny, buzzing friends on this special day dedicated to raising awareness about the importance of honeybees and their role in our ecosystem! Let's give a virtual hug to these incredible creatures! 🤗🐝💕 While we don't recommend literally hugging a honeybee (for both your safety and theirs!), there are so many ways we can show our appreciation and support for them. 🌸 Plant bee-friendly flowers: Create a bee haven by planting a variety of flowers, shrubs, and trees that provide pollen and nectar throughout the year. Some bee favorites include lavender, sunflowers, and bee balm. 🚫 Say no to pesticides: Avoid using harmful chemicals on your grass or in your garden that can endanger bees and other pollinators. Instead, choose organic alternatives to maintain a healthy, bee-friendly environment. 🐝 Build bee habitats: Provide shelter and nesting sites for bees by setting up bee hotels, leaving small piles of wood, and leaving some areas of your garden a little wild. 🍯 Support local beekeepers or keep bees yourself! Did you know that my husband keeps bees in our backyard?!?! If this isn't something you are keen to do, you can support local beekeepers by purchasing honey and other bee products from them. 💡 Spread the word: Educate your friends and family about the importance of bees and what they can do to help. Share posts, like this one, on social media to raise awareness! So, on this World Bee Day, let's all commit to protecting and nurturing these essential pollinators. Together, we can ensure the survival of honeybees and the countless plant species that depend on them! 🌺🐝🌻 P.S. Here's a lovely photo of Bee Haven Farm & Apiary's hive, which is on our synagogue's campus. We can catch a glimpse of it from the back of our sanctuary! #WorldBeeDay #HugAHoneybee #SaveTheBees #BeeFriendly #Pollinators #Sustainability

Why celebrate bee day? For centuries #bees, among the hardest working creatures on the planet, have benefited people, plants and the #environment. By carrying pollen from one flower to another, #bees and other pollinators enable not only the production of an abundance of fruits, nuts and seeds, but also more variety and better quality, contributing to food security and nutrition. To raise awareness of the importance of #pollinators, the threats they face and their contribution to sustainable development, the #UnitedNations designated 20 May as #WorldBeeDay. Get involved with World Bee Day by doing something for the bees. Here are a few ideas below: * Create a #wildlife garden. * Plant bee-friendly plants. * Grow bee-friendly container displays. * Build a bug hotel. * Read up and get environmentally savvy. Today bees, pollinators, and many other insects are declining in abundance. This day provides an opportunity for all of us – whether we work for governments, organizations or civil society or are concerned citizens – to promote actions that will protect and enhance pollinators and their habitats, improve their abundance and diversity, and support the sustainable development of #beekeeping.
