Here's a "bird mode" recording from a "Remote Microphone" / 560 ohm pippyg, so it has 8dB less gain that a 220 ohm unit, which is why the overall look is less "glowy green" than yesterday's images, the noise - and everything else - is suppressed by 8dB. I stuck the mic in front of the stereo and turned it on. You can hear the effect of the onboard bandpass filter, there's not much going on in the recording below 1kHz, but for birdsong the impact is minimal, and as this is currently a self-build project only you can just substitute the 0.1uF AC coupling capacitor for a 1uF to move the bottom corner of the bandpass down to 287Hz from 2.87k. The effects of the big bank of filters doesn't seem impactful, which is good - the filters carry 7 additional bits of precision, so are 23-in, 23-out with 8-bit coefficients and one bit of headroom, but even so, integer IIRs and 8 of them back-to-back, I had no idea whether it would wreck the audio quality. But it sounds fine to these ears!

💡 What do you think of this Mu amplifier? ⚡ The gain of this audio amplifier, known as the Mu or µ amplifier is a function of the forward transconductance and the output conductance of the JFETs used. The higher the forward transconductance and lower the output conductance, the higher the voltage gain. Lower output conductance is a function of the gate-to-source biasing. Biasing near zero volts produces the highest conductance and near the Vgs(off) specification the lowest conductance.
