This is not an effective strategy if a school implements universal curriculum mapping for a cohort with KS2 scores <80-120 indicating a vast amount of difference in prior knowledge, reading/writing competency and capability. This is an effective strategy if a school implements child centred curriculum mapping: -What is the next concept on the E/M/S curriculum journey for me? -What concepts have I secured and what is the next step in my learning journey from my starting point? -What can I read and comprehend? <80 80 90 100 110 120 How can children be expected to participate or work independently if they cannot connect the new knowledge to their existing knowledge? What impact do you think this is going to have on behaviour/engagement in a class of 30 students with low prior attainment? Now add SEND... www.inclass.uk

No curriculum is designed for ALL learners, so when a school commits to #UDL, they must also determine how to use an adopted curriculum as a foundation while building on the evidence-based practices to meet the needs of all learners. Katie Novak, Ed.D. and Michael Woodlock created this protocol for school's to design and revise their curriculum as they continue on a path to universally design instruction for all learners. #Resource: UDL High-Quality Curriculum Adoption/Review https://hubs.la/Q02LNKT10

Troubling trends in this year's EdReports State of the Market report. HQIM are now readily available, but only 35% of ELA teachers and 51% of math teachers use HQIM consistently. Why? One reason could be a lack of preparation to use HQIM effectively. "Data from recent years reveal that teacher preparation programs have traditionally dedicated insufficient time to skillful use of provided curricula. For example, only 38% of programs emphasize how to skillfully use and modify curricula, while 71% continue to support developing personal lesson and unit plans (Table 9). This imbalance highlights a critical area for improvement in how we prepare educators to develop their practice." Can #CBPL fill the gaps left by teacher preparation programs?
