Shortage of ships has led to an increase in blank sailings A new analysis suggests that insufficient vessel capacity has left shipping companies with no choice but to cancel sailings. The two major shipping routes, Asia to Europe and the Pacific route, saw a large increase in canceled sailings in March and April. The route worst affected by blank sailings was Asia-North Europe, which lost 21% of its planned capacity in April. #Amcargo #shipping #international #oceanfreight #vessel

#Cruise vessels typically operate at speeds of 20-25 knots, while #Container vessels range from 16 to 24 knots, depending on their size and cargo load. #RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) vessels, which transport wheeled cargo, generally maintain speeds between 16 and 22 knots. #Tankers, known for carrying large quantities of liquid cargo, such as crude oil, travel at slower speeds, typically ranging from 13 to 17 knots. #Bulk carriers, designed for carrying unpackaged bulk goods like grains or coal, operate at even slower speeds, generally between 13 and 15 knots. These speeds reflect general operational ranges under normal conditions for these types of vessels. https://lnkd.in/dbdVHBaq

🚨Attention! The Rising Threat of Blank Sailings in Global Maritime Transport 🚨 Have you heard of "Blank Sailing"? This critical term in maritime transport refers to the cancellation of a scheduled voyage by a shipping line, either partially or completely. While common, Blank Sailing can cause significant disruptions in the supply chain, leading to severe delays in the delivery of goods and increasing operational costs for businesses and consumers alike. The reasons for Blank Sailing are varied: overcapacity of ships, route optimization, seasonal adjustments, operational issues, and external factors like weather conditions or political conflicts. The major consequences include rescheduling shipments, which results in delays and additional costs, and a surge in freight rates due to reduced shipping space availability. To mitigate the impact of Blank Sailings, businesses must adopt proactive strategies: advanced planning, diversification of transport providers, constant market monitoring, and preventive storage measures. These steps can help manage cancellations more effectively and minimize their adverse effects on global logistics. Stay informed and prepared to tackle these challenges in the ever-evolving landscape of international logistics! #SupplyChain #Logistics #MaritimeTransport #BlankSailing #GlobalTrade #BusinessContinuity #ShippingIndustry #SupplyChainDisruptions

NYK Line chartered the 2012-built, 206,104 dwt newcastlemax bulker Los Angeles for a gross charter rate of $28,700, minus a 5% commission paid to third parties, for a period until a minimum of October 1, 2025, up to a maximum of December 15, 2025. The company said that the charter was expected to begin on July 18 in direct continuation of the current charter which is on a day rate of $17,700. The employment of the Los Angeles is anticipated to generate around $12.43m of gross revenue for the minimum scheduled period of the time charter. Upon completion of the previously announced sale of the Houston bulker, Diana Shipping’s fleet will consist of 38 dry bulk vessels – four newcastlemaxes, eight capesizes, five post-panamaxes, six kamsarmaxes, six panamaxes, and nine ultramaxes. The company also expects to take delivery of two methanol dual fuel new-building kamsarmax dry bulk vessels by the second half of 2027 and the first half of 2028, respectively. Currently, the combined carrying capacity of the fleet including the Houston and excluding the two vessels not yet delivered, is approximately 4.4m dwt with a weighted average age of 10.92 years.
