Immigration Stories : USA The US has for many years been host to the largest number of immigrants. There nearly 48 million immigrants currently living in the USA. About a quarter (11 million) of the immigrants in the USA are undocumented (otherwise known as illegal (im)migrants). It has more immigrants than any other country in the world. Currently, the US is home to a quarter (25%) of all international students globally. And these immigrants come from all nearly every country across the world. What does that tell us? Tolerance? Is that what makes America great or? Should that justify the Americans and Mr Trump's plan for stronger American border controls? The Paradox of Stephen Miller: A Jewish Advocate for Hardline Immigration Policies Stephen Miller, a senior advisor to former President Donald Trump, is a highly controversial figure known for his hardline stance on immigration. His policies and actions often mirror far-right ideologies, which many find ironic given his Jewish heritage and the historical persecution of Jews, particularly during the Nazi era. Born into a liberal-leaning Jewish family, Miller's conservative shift began in high school and solidified during his time at Duke University. Despite his family's Democratic inclinations, he became known for advocating stringent immigration policies, including the infamous travel ban, family separations at the border, and reducing refugee admissions. Critics highlight the contradiction between Miller's Jewish heritage and his anti-immigration stance. His family history of fleeing persecution makes his support for restrictive policies particularly paradoxical. This tension underscores the complex and often contradictory nature of political ideologies and personal histories. Conclusion Stephen Miller's hardline immigration policies have made him a polarizing figure, with many questioning how someone with his background could support such measures. This controversy highlights the complexities of identity and belief, challenging us to consider the intricate factors that shape our political views. #Immigration #StephenMiller #PoliticalContradictions #JewishHeritage #TrumpAdministration #PolicyDebate #HistoricalIrony

CONFLICT ANALYSIS: THE CONFLICT OF RECENT IMMIGRATION INTO USA https://lnkd.in/ghXCRZdC The USA's history is a history of conflict of immigration and integration, and minorities have received the brunt of hate and mistreatment, from lynchings and jailing to relentless persecution. Unable to defend themselves. https://lnkd.in/gRE5gUxE The USA is a country of immigrants and settlers from Europe by the millions, except for the Indigenous communities, mostly cleansed or exterminated during the colonizing wars. Still, at the time, mostly Germans and Irish or whites came in millions and millions, and they harmed minorities to no end. https://lnkd.in/gUh7Z4Uj Europeans and American slave traders transported nearly 12.5 million enslaved Africans to the Americas. Of this number, approximately 10.7 million people have been disembarked alive in the Americas. https://lnkd.in/gWWEw7BX Today, an estimated 2.4 million farmworkers work on farms and ranches in the United States. Most farmworkers are immigrants; approximately 36% lack authorized work status under current U.S. laws. In many places, they are used as slaves or jailed and made work for a dollar a day. They are hated for doing the work for free. https://lnkd.in/gBGMjX-3 The invasion talked about is very minimal, but there is a need for an orderly entrance into the country for many reasons, including national security. Of course, the hate for minorities among the #republicans is very obvious, and they only like the minorities who vote for them and are willing to stay as second-status citizens. The vote does have the power to change history in real democracies! https://lnkd.in/gxwVtRpT Peace is the best way to live! The U.S. has granted asylum to those facing religious or political persecution since the 1940s. Many in Central and South America and other parts of the globe face qualifying circumstances today, which has driven a record number of migrant encounters and crossings along the U.S. Southern border each year. The two major parties have long disagreed on ways to manage this influx, leading to a U.S. #immigration system that appears ill-equipped for the age it is in and increasingly hostile conditions for those seeking entry. What are ways in which the U.S. could attempt immigration reform? What are the events that brought us to a political stalemate on this issue? We explore these questions and more with Dr. David Shirk, principal investigator for the Justice in Mexico project in the first episode of our 10X Border series. Listen in: https://lnkd.in/gG4-984C

We’ve joined forces with Human Rights First, Hope Border Institute, Kino Border Initiative, and Refugees International to challenge the Biden administration’s latest attack on asylum. We've filed an amicus brief that details how this rule silences voices, separates families, and denies people their legal right to seek asylum. We demand the immediate rescindment of this harmful rule. A just immigration system is possible. Share this post or comment below if you agree.
