The trains are punctual surprisingly, so don’t be late. Food and beverages range on board are not impressive, but you could bring your own food, snacks or beverages. The carriages are comfortable, well-designed, brightly lit, clean, and air-conditioned. The large side windows and sun roofs provided extraordinary scenic views along the journey. Tickets can be easily booked Online, at reasonable prices starting from Rp425,000 (US$27). The impressive train ride experience started at the station. We did not need to show our tickets or ID to get on trains in Jakarta, with their ‘Face Recognition’ ticketing system. This has improved efficiency significantly, and eliminated passenger queues at the boarding gates of train stations. Thanks to the Netherlands Government who built Indonesia’s train system in 1862, just three decades after the Dutch railway network was first constructed. Incredibly, Indonesia now operates one of the fastest trains in the world. And unquestionably, some of the best value rail journeys in the world.
