Big news for Aisti! 👏 Huge congratulations on reaching this great milestone and finalizing plans to Kitee! Aisti is set to begin manufacturing natural wood fiber-based acoustic panels at the Puhoshalli facility in Kitee in 2026. With €29 million in funding secured, the plans for the Kitee factory are now officially underway. “With this funding, we can move forward with building the Kitee factory, enabling our long-term commercialization plans,” says CEO Mikko Paananen. The factory is set to create 30–40 new jobs in its initial phase with production kicking off in the second half of 2026. Something I am looking forward to in the comming years is this ambitious project:

Today, we launch our new 3-year ShippingLab project focused on reducing carbon emissions in shipping! In charge of one of seven work packages, I will work transversally, applying finely tuned anthropological ears and eyes (and other senses) to the five technological projects. How is a digital twin imagined, which data is it based on, what does it take to pilot a ship from land, which human decision-making expertise and often tacit sensory skills is the technology supposed to assist or replace, how do political, economic, collaborative and other factors play into the technology development? And how does each technological project evolve over the years? Conceiving of the "user" as everyone involved and "the human factor" as just about everything, including the weather! - these are just a few of the themes that our work package 6 on human-technology interaction aims to explore. Collaborating with Jakob Krause Jensen and a consortium of university and shipping industry partners, this is certainly going to be an exciting journey!

🚢🔧 In an exciting project spearheaded by MOL (Europe Africa), Carnot is pioneering engine technology that eliminates energy loss during cooling and boosts thermal and fuel efficiency using heat-resistant materials. Carnot’s new engine could enhance fuel efficiency by 20%-40% compared to traditional engines. Following successful demonstration tests, MOL plans to potentially integrate this technology into its merchant vessel fleet. This investment aligns with MOL’s “BLUE ACTION 2035” strategy, aimed at sustainable growth and addressing environmental challenges. MOL aims to reduce GHG emissions, enhance economic efficiency in its fleet, and contribute to GHG reductions across the shipping industry and other sectors reliant on internal combustion engines. "Startup Spotlight: Zemission – Tackling the Challenges of Electric Trucks with Innovative Heating Technology Zemission, a Lund-based company is making strides in solving a major issue facing electric trucks: the reduced range caused by heating the cabin and battery in colder weather. Founded by Anders Vestin, Zemission’s technology uses a catalytic combustion process powered by ethanol or biodiesel, offering a more efficient way to keep trucks warm without draining the battery.
