One of the themes for this year's National Road Safety Week is "Drive in the moment + avoid distraction". This one in particular stood out to us - it seems so simple and yet can make the biggest difference to those you share the road with. Staying present and focused on the road is essential for your safety and the safety of others. Here’s why it's important to drive in the moment and how you can avoid distractions: 1. Eyes on the Road: Keep your attention on the road ahead and be mindful of your surroundings. This way, you can anticipate and respond to any changes in traffic conditions. 2. Hands on the Wheel: Avoid using your phone, eating, or engaging in other activities that take your hands off the wheel. Maintain control of your vehicle at all times. 3. Mind on Driving: Stay mentally engaged in your driving, avoid daydreaming or focusing on non-driving-related thoughts. 4. Plan Ahead: Set your GPS and adjust your radio or climate control before you start driving. This helps minimise distractions while you're on the move. 5. Be Mindful of Passengers: Interactions with passengers can be distracting. Keep conversations light and avoid intense discussions while driving. Which type of road tripper are you? The driver. You like to be leading the charge at the wheel. The navigator. You’re the wingman or woman in the passenger seat directing the driver. Think Chewbacca! The planner. You’re mapping out the route, the stops for snacks, the landmarks to see along the way.
