Nurses change the body position of critically ill patients as frequently as every two hours to prevent bed sores and other complications associated with immobility (pulmonary complications such as ARDS, VAP and bronchopnemonia). Turning from side to side may also help loosen and drain secretions accumulated within the lungs. A lateral rotation mattress with position holding function can help nurses achieve above daily care activities. What an ICU bed can't do, our mattress can. https://lnkd.in/gawPC7MR.

Recently, the Journal on Quality and Patient Safety highlighted the development and evaluation of I-PASS-to-PICU, a standard electronic referral communication template in a single pediatric ICU (PICU) with the goal of improving communication for interfacility PICU transfers. Transfers of critically ill children to a higher level of care are at increased risk for poor information exchanges, so establishing a structured handoff tool is critical. The study shares how I-PASS-to-PICU was developed and evaluated at the UI Stead Family Department of Pediatrics Children’s Hospital (IU SFCH) PICU and conceptualized as a receiver-driven handoff tool to be used primarily by PICU physicians to guide verbal communication and allow electronic documentation in real-time during PICU transfer calls. Through interviews with PICU staff members, the I-PASS-to-PICU program was found feasible, usable, and relevant in facilitating high-quality information exchanges for critically ill pediatric transfers to the PICU and can be adapted to other similar institutions and clinical settings involving acute interfacility transfer of patients. https://lnkd.in/eExsYUUk #patientsafety #pediatrics #PICU #caretransitions

Staff turnover is an ongoing problem for many nursing units. Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center sought to better understand the relationship between resilience and retention of bone marrow transplant (BMT) nurses over a 5 year period. An important finding was that risk of turnover decreases slightly at 2 years, suggesting a commitment to BMT nursing at this time. For further insights, read the entire study in The American Society for Transplantation and Cellular Therapy (ASTCT) and share your thoughts in the comments. [Image description: Light blue text on a darker blue transparent background: “The Phenotype of a BoneMarrow Transplant Nurse: The Survival of the Fittest.” In the background, you can see an image of a nurse holding a patient’s hand. Patients that are transferred from nursing homes to hospitals have a general H&P on admission. The concentration of this physical is directly related to their reason for admission (which often does not include a robust oral exam). Maybe it should? #dentalcare #geriatricmedicine #QOL #nursinghomes #bioethics "A “silent epidemic” of oral diseases is looming and our most vulnerable segments of society, older adults, are at greatest risk.(7) In the United States, older adults develop coronal caries at a rate of on new cavity per year(8,9) Despite the rapidly growing older adult population, data for adults aged ≥ 75 years are lacking. For example, in the United States, the most recent national estimate is decades old and indicates that 37.9% of adults aged ≥ 75 years have untreated coronal caries. Further, people of color disproportionately experience oral disease, yet little is known about racial/ethnic disparities in older adults.(10 )Oral health is an often forgotten, modifiable risk factor that could reduce pervasive and persistent racial/ethnic health disparities." NEWS RELEASE: EB Medicine and PM Pediatric Care Team Up To Enrich Education, Broaden Coverage for Acute Care Clinicians. Together, EB Medicine and PM Pediatric Care will produce and distribute a series of CME courses to meet a growing demand for high-yield pediatric urgent care content that is aimed at non-pediatricians. As consumers increasingly bypass pediatric and family medicine practices unable to provide immediate care or seek care after regular business hours, urgent care clinics are seeing a surge of patients under the age of 26. The jointly developed educational program will serve as an intensive course on common chief complaints among children and young adults, covering not only the distinctly different, must-know aspects of their care but also the can’t-miss risks. This CME course will contain brief high-yield modules, case-based reviews, and guidelines/pathways that can be used in real-time. Coming SOON! We are very excited to share this with you all! Who’s who in cancer care: Understanding nurses’ roles Cancer sucks and navigating cancer care can be frightening but also confusing with so many types of nurses involved. Here’s a simple guide to help you understand their roles: 🔹Oncology certified nurses: These are registered nurses with specialized training in cancer care. They focus on providing treatment and support tailored to cancer patients. 🔹Registered nurses (RNs): They are the frontline caregivers, offering day-to-day support and managing your overall care. 🔹Nurse navigators: They help guide you through the treatment process, making sure you have the information and resources you need. 🔹Advanced Practice Nurses: These include nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists with advanced training. They can diagnose, treat, and prescribe medication. 🔹Nurse anesthetists: They provide anesthesia for surgeries or procedures, ensuring you’re comfortable and pain-free. #cancersucks #cancernurse #oncology #healthcare #nursetraveler
