Why Foreign Companies don't like to come to Nepal? Reason# 1223648499007778 My experience with Trademark Registration office is absolutely horrific. The first trademark we got for our brand took us 3+ years from the date of registration which includes multiple new registrations, amendment, and so on. Now we are again in the same boat. The Office of IP Registration now wants us to withdraw our application just because the new brand and selected code doesn't align with the objective listed on our Department of Industry Registration whereas the objective has been listed on our registration at the Office of Company Registrar. I don't know why different offices of the government cannot recognize each other's approvals and decisions in the first place. Why the need to register at multiple places? Isn't the hassle to register at OCR, Local Level, IRD and the compliances that come with it enough already?? Really Really getting tired of toiling our ass off in this land and having to fight hard for almost everything even if it is your right. Lawmakers should really think of facilitating the existing business in the country before they BS about increasing foreign investment. #smh #trademark #IP
The requirement to register an industry to file an application for trademark is a flawed practice in Nepal. It isn’t legally mandated. I strongly believe that this practice is due to the trademark registration authority being a section within the Department of Industry.

8moThat's a very serious issue. But there is more issue which is very serious than this. that u'll see only if u watch through internally. Those issues are 1)we give Power of attorney to the wrong people during registration in industry. 2) we choose local people other then expert or law firm. 3) this trademark law is very old. Need to amend it
