Enshrined in Articles 23 and 24, this right safeguards human dignity and freedom by prohibiting: 🔹 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻 𝗛𝘂𝗺𝗮𝗻 𝗕𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀: Article 23 explicitly bans trafficking and forced labor, ensuring no person is subjected to slavery-like conditions. 🔹 𝘾𝙝𝙞𝙡𝙙 𝙇𝙖𝙗𝙤𝙧: Article 24 prohibits the employment of children under 14 in factories, mines, or any hazardous occupation, ensuring their right to a healthy childhood and education. These provisions empower the State to enforce laws against these exploitative practices, reinforcing our commitment to social justice and equality. Day 9 of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence True Honour stands united in the fight against gender-based violence, and education plays a vital role in this mission. We were proud to have Clive driscoll our Deputy Chair, speaking to students about harmful practices and their devastating impact. Clive’s message was clear: awareness is the first step toward change. Through meaningful conversations, he equipped young people with the knowledge to recognise, understand, and challenge harmful practices such as forced marriage, female genital mutilation, and honour-based abuse. By engaging with students, we are planting seeds of awareness and encouraging a new generation to be advocates for change. Education empowers individuals to stand against injustice, break the silence, and protect those at risk. Together, we can create a future free from gender-based violence. A heartfelt thank you to Clive for his continued efforts and to the students for their openness and willingness to engage with these vital conversations. Let’s continue to raise awareness, speak out, and work toward a safer, more equal society. #HRC56 Today, at the #HumanRightsCouncil in Geneva, we delivered a crucial oral intervention urging states to accelerate efforts to #EndChildMarriage. Girls Not Brides, GAMCOTRAP and Equality Now urge states to: 1️⃣ Support the establishment of a new Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which would expand the right to #education to include at least one year of free pre-primary education, and free secondary education; 2️⃣ Adopt policy measures that increase adolescent girls’ autonomy in the household, making work a viable option; coupled with facilitating employment opportunities as an alternative to marriage; and 3️⃣ Adopt and protect, where these exist, legislative measures that outlaw child marriage and other harmful practices, including #FGM/C, including by supporting efforts to maintain the current law against FGM/C in The Gambia. It's time to take decisive steps towards protecting the rights and futures of all children.

Regardless of background, identity or circumstances, respecting and promoting human dignity of women is crucial for fostering a culture of peace, inclusivity and empathy. Peace starts when women are protected from prejudice and bias. Peace starts when women are free from discrimination and are not denied access to food, water, shelter, healthcare, education and all basic needs. Participating in the 9th #APC2024 was an enthralling experience. I got the opportunity to share learnings from the Adolescent Girls Initiative Kenya (AGI-K), a multi-sectoral and multi-level intervention program targeting young adolescent girls to improve their health and well-being outcomes and particularly reduce child marriage and early pregnancy in marginalized pastoralist settings. The key learnings included: 1) Intervening in early adolescence - early adolescence provides a critical window of opportunity to intervene at a time when girls are experiencing many challenges, but before those challenges have resulted in outcomes that may be irreversible. 2) Centering multi-dimensional approaches is critical for success. AGI-K implemented a combination of interventions, including health, education, wealth creation, and community violence prevention. Results indicate that girls who were out of school before program implementation experienced increased school enrollment, reduced child marriage, and reduced early pregnancy. 3) Multi-sectoral and multi-agency/departmental collaboration is key - The AGI-K program is now being heavily implemented by the county government of Wajir in Kenya. Though an education-heavy program, the county is leveraging existing health structures to deliver the program offering scalability and sustainability. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM) - . Since the 1970s, SAAM has been held every April in the ongoing fight against gendered violence. In Australia, sexual assault crimes have increased significantly over the last decade. Some groups who experience marginalisation, including the LGBTIQA+, First Nations, disability, aged, and culturally and linguistically diverse groups are impacted at a higher rate. To combat this, ECASA has put its focus on promoting and educating the public on consent, seeking to prevent sexual assault. Hi everyone! Just sending around my latest paper with wonderful co-authors Rubini Ball and NZ Judge Anthony FitzGerald. The paper presents an analysis of policy approaches from around the world that aim to support dually involved or 'crossover' children: available #openaccess via the @JournalofCrim: https://bit.ly/44nXQ3c Key findings: --> We found promising evidence for some approaches, notably the Crossover Youth Practice Model (US), however, most suffer from a lack of implementation and outcomes evaluation, insufficient diversity considerations, & minimal inclusion of lived experience in design/implementation. --> Findings suggest future policy reforms for supporting crossover children should prioritise: whole-of-government strategies, children's perspectives, prevention, restorative & diversionary responses, multi-agency collaboration, ongoing support for implementation & evaluation.

We need to strengthen our campaign and programmes around the following areas: 1. Education and Awareness: We must intensify campaigns that challenge societal norms and attitudes that condone violence. Schools should be hubs of not only academic education but also values that promote respect, empathy, and non-violence. 2. Economic Empowerment: Women and children are most vulnerable in contexts of economic dependence. Investing in skills development and entrepreneurship programs for women can break cycles of abuse by creating pathways to independence. 3. Accountability and Justice: Perpetrators must face the full force of the law. Too often, victims report incidents only to be let down by a justice system that is slow, inaccessible, or unresponsive. We need specialized courts, faster case resolutions, and better support for survivors navigating legal processes.
