We are proud to have supported the “Spot the Early Signs of AM” webinar series hosted by the Excellence in Pediatrics Institute. Launched in 2023, this educational program intended for pediatric healthcare professionals was designed to share important information about key signs and symptoms to aid the early diagnosis and management of alpha-mannosidosis (AM). In this year’s series, clinical experts highlighted perspectives about the difference that early detection and treatment can make for individuals living with AM and their families. Webinars included as part of the “Spot the Early Signs of AM” program were developed independently with financial support from Chiesi. #AlphaMannosidosis #RareDiseases #ChiesiGlobalRareDiseases

Last week I had the honor of presenting Grand Rounds to the UVA Department of Pediatrics and Neonatology on the topic of Intergenerational Communication. Thanks to Dr. Sinkin for the invitation! Key takeaways: 1. Practice Empathy. Understand and celebrate the differences inherent in each generation. 2. Assume Positive Intent. Most people are trying to do their best each day. Instead of assuming the worst about younger colleagues, ask yourself "What else could be true?" 3. Set Clear Expectations and Boundaries for giving and receiving information, and when communication styles conflict, work together to find an optimal solution. 𝗖𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗙𝗢𝗥𝗡𝗜𝗔 is home to the experts necessary for establishing a 𝗣𝗔𝗡𝗦/𝗣𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗦 Advisory Council. While it is promising that the American Academy of Pediatrics has recognized 𝗣𝗔𝗡𝗦/𝗣𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗦, their assertion that this condition is understudied is incorrect, and they have not followed the recommended treatment guidelines provided by leading specialists. This misinformation underscores the need for consulting experts to ensure that no child in California is misdiagnosed or inadequately treated for 𝗣𝗔𝗡𝗦/𝗣𝗔𝗡𝗗𝗔𝗦. With AB2105 set to be implemented on January 1, 2025, requiring coverage for PANDAS and PANS, it is crucial for schools and medical facilities in California to have access to reliable treatment options and educational resources. The urgent need for a California PANS/PANDAS Advisory Council cannot be overstated! It’s time to pay attention to the experts!
