Each spotlight will dive into their insights on one key question:   "What makes simulation an effective teaching tool?"   This month, we feature Dr. Rena Linderer, a neonatologist from University of Illinois at Chicago. Read on to discover her perspective!   Dr. Linderer: “I think it's very practical to practice situations that are low frequency, high yield type settings. Creating the environment to make it feel real despite the mannequin being fake, and [re-creating] the emotion of it and the urgency of the situation… So, when you encounter the situation in real life, you're like 'Ohh yes, this is the part where I was really anxious and learned what to do, and now I can do it.' [Also,] I like the communication aspect of simulation where you're not necessarily doing this for the medicine, but for the communication skills.
