We are excited to continue the "Simulationist Spotlight" series, where we highlight leading experts in healthcare simulation. Each spotlight will dive into their insights on one key question: "What makes simulation an effective teaching tool?" This month, we feature Dr. Amy Joseph, a Pediatric Critical Care Fellow at Cleveland Clinic Children's Hospital. Read on to discover her perspective! Dr. Joseph: “Simulation creates a safe learning space with less pressure than sometimes seeing a scenario with a real patient. I think this is such an important place to learn and then be able to take those skills to the bedside. I think the other advantage of simulation is that you can practice with multidisciplinary teams and really figure out the best way to do something and take the time to do so. There are so many different applications for simulation!” #AAPSimulation #Simulation #SoSILM #HealthcareSimulation #InnovativeLearning

1. The OSU Wexner Medical Center, led by CEO Dr. John Warner, has made significant progress in clinical care and research funding in 2024, with $477 million in research funding and a 13% growth year-over-year. 2. A massive new hospital tower, one of the largest healthcare construction projects in the U.S., is 85% complete and designed to enhance team-based healthcare. 3. The medical center's strategic goals for 2025 include providing world-class care, expanding research, and creating a nurturing environment for talent development. 4. To address the healthcare workforce shortage, the center aims to attract more professionals to central Ohio and promote the region's opportunities. 5. The center is actively working to address health disparities by connecting with communities and co-creating solutions for issues like cancer, heart disease, and behavioral health. 6. In light of changing political landscapes, the center emphasizes the importance of understanding women's health concerns and maintaining open dialogues about reproductive care 7. Financial accessibility in healthcare is a priority, with a focus on improving access while minimizing costs 8. The center is using artificial intelligence to enhance patient-provider interactions, specifically through "ambient listening

Now Available on freeCME.com: ”Halting the Spiral in Worsening Heart Failure: A Virtual Patient Simulation,” an immersive virtual patient simulation (VPS) created in collaboration with Edocate. With this activity, participants will engage in an interactive case scenario designed to enhance their ability to identify a patient with worsening heart failure with reduced ejection fraction (HFrEF), optimize a treatment plan using the latest evidence-based recommendations, and apply interprofessional strategies to improve patient outcomes. Learners will receive personalized feedback and access a downloadable pocket guide to facilitate integration of new knowledge into clinical practice, ultimately aiming to build confidence and improve care in this complex patient population. Find the full activity here: https://lnkd.in/eZvETZMf This activity is supported by an educational grant from Merck & Co., Inc.

We are excited to bring you a new series called "Simulationist Spotlight," where we highlight leading experts in healthcare simulation. Each spotlight will dive into their insights on one key question: "What makes simulation an effective teaching tool?" This month, we feature Dr. Rena Linderer, a neonatologist from University of Illinois at Chicago. Read on to discover her perspective! Dr. Linderer: “I think it's very practical to practice situations that are low frequency, high yield type settings. Creating the environment to make it feel real despite the mannequin being fake, and [re-creating] the emotion of it and the urgency of the situation… So, when you encounter the situation in real life, you're like 'Ohh yes, this is the part where I was really anxious and learned what to do, and now I can do it.' [Also,] I like the communication aspect of simulation where you're not necessarily doing this for the medicine, but for the communication skills. Building a simulation curriculum on just communication alone that is a low-pressure setting, is such high yield with important information and skills to develop.” #AAPSimulation #Simulation #HealthcareSimulation #InnovativeLearning

Miller’s Pyramid reminds us of the gap that often exists between "knows how," "shows how," and "does." While simulation environments can effectively take us to the "shows how" level, true competence—reaching the "does" level—requires practice in real clinical settings with actual patients. At SimHubs, we believe hospital-based simulation programs are the key to bridging this gap. By integrating simulation into clinical environments, we can track and measure the transition from theory to real-world application, ensuring healthcare providers don’t just learn but truly perform. It’s time to focus on creating simulation programs that go beyond the lab and make a real impact on patient care. Let’s discuss how we can make this a reality! #SimulationEducation #SimulationTechnolgy
