Seismic monitoring technology that is part of the #SUBMERSE #EuropeanUnion project at the Madeira Island, Portugal, allows a submarine optic cable to act as a sensor for seismic activity. This improves the chances of predicting earthquakes and tsunamis. This project is supported by 24 partners, including a number of research and education networks, such as CESNET, DeiC, FCCN, GÉANT, GRNET - Greek Research & Technology Network, NORDUnet, Poznan Supercomputing and Networking Center / Poznańskie Centrum Superkomputerowo-Sieciowe (PCSS), RedCLARA - Cooperación Latino Americana de Redes Avanzadas, and Sikt – Norwegian Agency for Shared Services in Education and Research.
