In construction, AI technologies are making work sites safer and more inclusive. The future of construction is here, from AI-driven safety compliance checks that keep workers safe from hazards to wearable devices that protect against injuries and fatigue. But that's not all - AI is also breaking down barriers for workers with disabilities. Technologies like exoskeleton suits and voice user interfaces are making jobs in construction accessible to everyone, fulfilling the promise of the Americans with Disabilities Act. #RPA #AaroRnTech #AI #Chatbots #ChatAgility #Taskmining

🎉 Thrilled to share that our latest paper, "Real-Time Personal Protective Equipment Non-Compliance Recognition on AI Edge Cameras," has been published in the Special Issue of "Pattern Recognition and Image Processing: Latest Advances and Prospects" in the MDPI Electronics (Switzerland) journal. 👷♂️ In this research, we propose a deep learning-based pipeline for real-time identification of non-compliance with safety gear at construction sites. A key feature of our model is its deployment on the edge, allowing CCTV cameras to process video feeds in real time without relying on cloud services. This edge deployment reduces latency and enhances system reliability, making it a scalable solution for real-time PPE detection and alerting. Our findings highlight the effectiveness of the SSD MobileNet V2 model in enhancing safety outcomes by automating and streamlining safety monitoring processes. Extensive experimental validation and comparative analysis of real-world construction data demonstrate the model's effectiveness and practical applicability. 🙏 A big thank you to my co-authors and collaborators from SmartAIConnect, MaxusAI, and RMIT University for their tremendous support throughout this project. Glenn Neuber, Christopher Lane, John FitzGerald, Dr. Azadeh Alavi, Stan Potums, and Dr. Nadeesha Chandrasena I am looking forward to more exciting collaborations and advancements in the field of AI and safety technology! Like many people, I sometimes admire the beautiful landscapes and coastlines while driving on the highways. However, this can be a dangerous habit, given that we should constantly scan the road ahead. Our new car is equipped with i-Activsense safety technology, which sends an audio alert to warn me when distracted driving. It's been very effective in helping me correct this bad habit. This made me think about implementing similar technology to enhance workplace safety. For example, integrating a safety lens into safety glasses could alert workers about situational hazards, excessive heat, or improper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), to name but a few. The i-Active safety lens could also trigger a stop-work notification, alerting workers and their managers to ensure safety awareness. We have a lot of creative opportunities with AI, especially in terms of enhancing human factors. (AI-generated image)
