Learnings From The Career Edge Fellowship | Decoding Consulting Challenge | Careers In Consulting. On 25th August I attended the first live session of the Career Edge Consulting Fellowship, wherein Mr. Yatin Chopra spoke about careers in consulting. It was an enlightening session, wherein we learned the following- 1. Background Agnostic: Often we find ourselves in a cycle of education and employment. Before joining the fellowship, I was in the same pickle. I was stressed about my degree and a lack of MBA to succeed in consulting, however, the CE fellowship session, helped me reassess my priorities. You can have your undergrad degree in social sciences, hotel management or medicine, consulting firms seldom hold it against you. If you are willing to work in the field, and have an affinity for problem solving, pursue consulting. Don't let the lack of degree stop you! 2. Consulting Categories: For the longest time I was confused between management and strategic consulting. To me both of the terms meant the same thing. However, during the session, I got to learn the difference between different consulting careers, such as management consulting, strategic consulting, tech consulting, social impact consulting and the like. Strategic consulting is fundamentally rooted in suggestions, whereas, management consulting typically involves even implementation. The clarity in these terms have made my path towards a future role clearer and helped me organize my thoughts. 3. Work-Life Balance: I have often cited long hours for minimal pay as a reason to pivot to consulting. This session clarified certain ambiguities concerning consulting hours. While consulting does require long hours, the pay makes up for it. Furthermore, it is possible to block your weekends and take time off after a workday. While consulting does require more hours than a traditional job, your projects will keep you satisfied. Moreover, your workplace will play a role in your working hours. It is imperative to choose the right fit for you. The learnings from the first CE consulting fellowship have helped me decide on a future path, and help me decode certain consultancy myths which is vital to understand and succeed in the field.

Learnings From The Career Edge Consulting Fellowship | Decoding Consulting Challenge | Careers In Consulting I recently attended an insightful session on "Careers in Consulting" as a part of the Career Edge Consulting Fellowship, and here are my top three takeaways: 1. Clarifying Strategy vs. Management Consulting: While there’s often overlap between strategy and management consulting, I learned that strategy consulting typically focuses on identifying the problem (the "what"), whereas management consulting deals with executing solutions (the "how"). This distinction, along with an improved understanding of the workflow in both areas, was particularly enlightening. 2. Understanding the Consulting Hierarchy: The session gave me a clearer picture of the hierarchical structure within a consulting organization. I now have a better grasp of the qualifications and experience needed at each level, as well as the distinct roles and responsibilities that come with each position. 3. Project Lifecycle and Key Skills: I now have a clearer understanding of a consulting project’s lifecycle, starting from kickoff to hypothesis development, research, deliverables, and implementation. The session also reinforced the importance of a strong CV, building problem-solving skills, and structured thinking—not only to excel in a consulting role but to improve how we approach challenges in life. Thank you, Career Edge, for a great session. Excited for the upcoming milestones in this fellowship journey!

Why Consulting got stuck in My Heart (And How It Can Steal Yours Too!) ❤️ From starting my journey in technology consulting at TechM consulting to moving to EY and Accenture Strategy in their Outstanding Delivery team, I’ve loved every bit of my time in consulting. Here’s why how this industry has groomed a young MBA graduate into a professional: 1. From Basics to Boardroom Ready: Remember those initial-day anxiety? TechM-Consulting didn't just train me on the work, they trained me to be professionals. From corporate communication skills to client delivery basics, those little details make a BIG difference. ✨ 2. C-Suite Speeding..... It's Known as Consulting! My first project? Got this project after anxious waiting -to work with Telco-giant from UK Geo for Transition a contract from 2 Market leaders from US & UK Geo and then Automation Transformation in it. Next project? A UK Pharma giant company-performing major Automation and Six sigma transformation. Consulting puts you face-to-face with industry titans at lightning speed. 3. Jump to Swim or Learn to Swim while sinking...and Become an Pro! Consulting throws you in the deeper-side, but with a life-support. Even if you're new, you'll be entrusted with projects that push you to become a potential subject matter expert, FAST. It's a constant learning curve that keeps things exciting and drives you to learn and gain skills. 4. Variety is the Masala! ️ Projects are short-lived, but packed with ample challenges. In a year, you could tackle everything from marketing strategy to operational efficiency. It's like a crash course for multiple verticals within multiple industries! 5. Ninja Status in Communication: Unlocked! Consulting is all about clear, concise communication. You'll be creating presentations and leading discussions like a pro in no time, if given the time!! This skillset will boost your confidence and make you a Standout in Majorly every field. Learnings From The Career Edge Consulting Fellowship| Decoding Consulting Challenge | Careers In Consulting I attended the most AMAZING live session yesterday on "Careers In Consulting" with Career Edge and Yatin Chopra Consultant at Accenture Strategy & Consulting ✨ My mind is officially blown! Here are 3️⃣ key takeaways that had me taking notes like crazy: 1. Consulting is like solving puzzles with a sprinkle of storytelling magic! 🪄 Yatin dropped some serious knowledge bombs about how consultants don't just solve problems, they craft compelling stories around the solutions. This got me thinking - it's all about clear communication and using data to back up those "aha!" moments. It's not just the "what" but the "why" and "how" you present your findings that make the real impact. 2. Forget the cookie-cutter consultant stereotype - it's ALL about your unique skill set! Yatin smashed the myth that consulting is only for MBAs. He championed the value of a DIVERSITY of backgrounds and skills! Whether you're a data whiz, a research rockstar ️♀️, or a communication ninja ️, there's a place for YOU at the consulting table. This is HUGE news for those of us coming from non-traditional paths. 3. Networking is your secret weapon in the consulting world! Yatin emphasized that building relationships with people in the field is like having a secret cheat code for success. Think mentorship magic ♀️ and doors flinging open like BAM! This is something I'm going to be laser-focused on as I explore my career options. What are YOUR biggest questions or insights about the consulting world? Business Consulting is an industry that I aspire to get into and professionally develop in. I want to make a difference for people and businesses in ways that allow me to come alongside them, problem-solve, and create lasting change that goes beyond my time with them. Most importantly, I want to create meaningful relationships where people and businesses are left feeling loved, served, honored, and that they were not just a "project" I was working on. I cannot wait for the day I get to do this. I would love to hear advice from anyone who would be willing to share: What are some helpful certifications and/or resources I can look into in this season where I am in-between careers? I want to always be a learner and grow as a human and professional. #businessconsulting #consulting #managementconsulting North Highland, ERM, Guidehouse, Accenture, The Hackett Group Inc.
