In sectors such as environment, agriculture, heritage, inspection, etc., satellite data is very useful. The fusion of this data with the ones captured using drones offers greater resolution and control, allowing the number of applications to be expanded and increasing the value of the information obtained. - In-orbit processing. CATEC has wide experience in image and data processing. Executing image processing on board significantly reduces the time used for applications in which processing time is critical. Furthermore, we are experts in the development of drone systems, whose characteristics and limitations are similar to those of satellite-based systems: limited weight and dimensions, etc., and we can contribute all this experience to satellite-based systems. - Space technology validation in unmanned systems. This paper represents my first survey conducted during my Ph.D. It addresses the necessity of performing joint optimization in control (mobility) and resource allocation for UAV swarm networks. Key open issues are summarized and potential solutions are discussed. I am sharing this paper again so that active researchers can find some guidance to address the open issues in this field.

Arguably, we have entered the 'third drone age,’ when virtually every actor has access to advanced drone technologies. The proliferation of UAVs has impacted blue and red forces' ability to gather data and turn it into actionable intelligence. To gain the edge, ISR drones now need to maximize their payloads and include additional sensors to the standard video and thermal cameras. Lightweight RF sensors integrated into UAVs as payloads can monitor broad areas and extend line-of-sight—essential for detecting and geolocating signals of interest.
