Employee engagement is down. Employee satisfaction is down. Employee retention is down. Why? I'll give a simple answer to a complex issue - the more we treat people like numbers, the more they will respond like one. If employees feel like they are just another number to the business, what makes you think they will stay around and deliver their best? They won't. They will either find another company to pay them more for their services as a number or find an employer that will provide an environment of support and belonging. When working with companies, my main goal is to help them embed #EmployeeWellbeing into their business on a cultural level, with a focus on leadership development. This is crucial to help avoid #WellbeingWashing, which can cause more damage to an already fragile ecosystem. This article written by Jazz Croft, PhD for Unmind does a fantastic job of diving deeper into what I'm getting at here through the lens of #burnout...take a look!

Employee engagement has long been the buzzword in the workplace. But if we're honest, it has often been a superficial checkbox exercise. It's time to shift gears and genuinely focus on well-being, which is the foundation of true engagement. Here are 4 straightforward steps to elevate well-being in the workplace: 1. Listen Actively: Most companies conduct surveys but rarely act on them. Start by not just collecting feedback but deeply listening to it. Create focus groups and open forums where employees feel safe to voice their concerns, and take tangible actions based on their inputs. 2. Promote Work-Life Balance: Encourage employees to take their leave, respect their off-hours, and discourage the glorification of overworking. Simple actions like regular 'no-meeting' days and flexible working hours can have a profound impact on reducing burnout. 3. Invest in Mental Health Resources: Provide access to professional counselling services, mental health days, and workshops on stress management. Make mental health a regular part of your dialogue, not just something that's addressed once a year. 4. Develop a Culture of Appreciation: Recognise and celebrate small wins regularly. Whether it's through a shout-out in a team meeting or a simple thank-you note, consistent appreciation can significantly boost morale and well-being. By focusing on these steps, we move from ticking boxes to truly caring for our teams. What steps will you take today to elevate well-being in your workplace?
