In the aftermath of Hurricanes Helene and Milton, our hearts go out to those impacted by the devastation. Entire communities have been cut off, homes destroyed, and lives uprooted. ISM Southeast is committed to helping in the recovery efforts. ISM Southeast will be 𝗱𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 5% of our Fourth Quarter income, up to $25,000, to 𝗦𝗮𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗮𝗻’𝘀 𝗣𝘂𝗿𝘀𝗲—an organization working tirelessly to deliver life-saving aid to regions hit hardest by these storms. From Florida’s coast to the rugged mountains of North Carolina and eastern Tennessee, Samaritan’s Purse is on the ground, providing emergency relief such as water, supplies, and generators to those in need. It’s the Dog Days of summer, and with it, summer storms. Did you know Hamra Enterprises provides employee grants to help cover losses resulting from natural disasters, including temporary housing or the replacement of food and other essentials? Through Hamra’s HERO Fund (Hamra Employees Reaching Out), the employee-funded grant program, more than 2,100 Hamra team members have received nearly $2 million to get them through an emergency, to buy a home, to adopt a child, or help out with college expenses. With the notification by the present administration that there will be no funds in the coffers for FEMA after the $750.00 allotment for Hurricane Helene victims. It would stand to reason that the US needs to face some rather difficult facts. Our debt is beyond what we can recover. Our homeless situation is out of control. Our infrastructure is in disrepair and our ability to replace and restore is increasing our national debt. The interest on the debt is absorbing our taxes. We have very effectively, by circumstance or design become a member of the third world nations. I would suggest it is time the US followed the path of other third world nations and look to NGO's for relief. The ones that have been used as tax shelters for decades and are holding great sums of money. Harvard, Yale, Duke, NCS, U of M, endowment funds and hundreds of others. Just to name a few. Even a .5 percent donation of their total endowments for Hurricane relief would easily cover the need. The Gates foundation, the Clinton Foundation, the Obama Foundation, and all others in a coordinated effort could bring us back to life with a great deal of money left over. The money donated to these NGO's and tax savings of those contributors would feel little pain from these entities coming to the table for the taxpayers of the US. #Universities #NGOS #media #endowments #relief #socialmedia #lobbyists #business #taxshelters #leadership

In today’s lecture, we explored key concepts in disaster management. I shared my experiences responding to disasters both domestically and internationally, including insights from the Hurricane Helene response. We emphasized the importance of long-term recovery and the crucial roles played by the private sector and nonprofits. While immediate response often garners attention, we examined stakeholder commitment to recovery efforts. Additionally, we touched on foreign policy and discussed where America’s funding was directed—toward international affairs or domestic disasters. Before you head into the long weekend, PLEASE GIVE to the Derecho Recovery Fund to support our neighbors recover: https://lnkd.in/gUkvdz2Z More than a million of us were recently impacted by power outages caused by rain, flooding, straight-line (derecho) winds, and tornadoes between April 26 - May 17. The long-lasting and material impact of this disaster is narrow, but deep. As of May 22, 2024, the Texas Department of Emergency Management iSTAT damage assessment indicates that there have been 836 validated homes impacted by this disaster, of which 336 were major/destroyed, 244 minor and 255 affected across Harris, Montgomery, Waller, Counties. In addition, United Way of Greater Houston's 2-1-1 call center has received 9,392 calls from April 26 - May 21, with food pantries/feeding centers, shelters, FEMA assistance, and disaster related cash grants as the primary services requested. The Connective Needs Assessment survey has received 656 reports of need related to the disaster, with reports of 318 homes damaged and primary needs for food and water, utilities, and financial assistance. In addition, 59,609 FEMA registrations have been validated for Harris County alone. Emergency management officials report that the numbers are rising daily and have not yet plateaued. We know so many families live on the financial edge in Houston. The Derecho Fund will support disaster recovery for uninsured or underinsured low-to-moderate income families in the City of Houston and Harris, Montgomery, and Waller Counties, focused on disproportionately impacted zip codes and vulnerable populations. The Fund will complement efforts by FEMA, SBA and others by providing funds to local nonprofits to provide emergency financial assistance, home repair, and resource navigation services to support impacted families access public and private resources available to support recovery. 🌧️ Autumn is here, and with it, a major flood disaster in Central Europe. 🌊 Many people are suffering as water destroys their homes. Living in Vienna, I’ve seen firsthand what it means when water becomes a force beyond our control. We cannot stop the water – it flows with a power that overwhelms everything in its path, and we are left to witness the damage it brings. But while we can't stop the water, we can choose how we respond to its impact. That’s why I have decided to donate half of my current courses revenue to support the flood victims.
