A BUDGET FOR THE FUTURE OF KOSOVO’S FOREIGN AFFAIRS The Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo yesterday approved, in its second reading, the Draft Law on Budget Allocations for the 2025 Budget of the Republic of Kosovo. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora has been allocated €49,496,777—one of the lowest budgets in the region. This approved budget reflects a status quo approach and is insufficient to address critical challenges, including: - Passive diplomacy; - shortage of diplomatic staff in Pristina and abroad; - limited and sporadic geographical spread of Kosovo's diplomatic presence; - insufficient professional competencies for effective diplomatic action; - weak control of the global diplomatic narrative about Kosovo; - a lack of robust advocacy and lobbying within key decision-making capitals worldwide; and - inadequate strategic efforts to secure universal recognition of the Republic of Kosovo, membership in the European Union, NATO, other vital international organizations, and accession to important conventions. Future budgets must prioritize substantial investment in expanding and strengthening the capacities of Kosovo’s foreign service. This is essential to effectively address international challenges and establish a competent, comprehensive foreign service capable of achieving strategic objectives, safeguarding state interests, and advancing Kosovo's position on the global landscape.

BREAKING: Armenia & Palestine Officially Establish Diplomatic Relations 🇦🇲🇵🇸 ➖➖➖ The Republic of Armenia and the State of Palestine have formally established diplomatic relations, reports Zartonk Media, citing Armenia’s Foreign Ministry (MFA). The joint communique was signed on September 27 during a meeting between Armenia’s Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Palestine’s Prime Minister Mohammad Mustafa on the sidelines of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York. During their meeting, they also discussed the regional situation. This historic agreement in Armenian-Palestinian relations opens a new chapter in the bilateral relationship, setting the stage for enhanced cooperation between the two nations. As previously reported, on June 21, Armenia recognized the State of Palestine. In its statement, Armenia’s Foreign Ministry highlighted the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza and the ongoing military conflict, emphasizing the need for resolution. The Republic of Armenia reaffirmed its commitment to international law, the principles of equality, sovereignty, and peaceful coexistence, and reiterated its support for a peaceful and comprehensive settlement of the Palestinian issue based on the “two-state” solution.

🌍💥 Tensions between Kinshasa and Kigali have worsened the security situation in the Great Lakes region in Africa. But diplomatic initiatives are underway to find a peaceful solution. Nice example of #diaspora #diplomacy from Latvia in Ireland. A key part of #diasporaengagement is listening to your diaspora. A really clever, low cost way of doing this is to embed sessions with the diaspora on all official visits of high-level government reps abroad when appropriate (e.g. when they visit key countries of destination for the diaspora).
