From my experience working with several individuals and recruiting people and leaders the best is to hire a person who you can trust and can trust others so a strong team relationships is built to thrive and grow. This trio model of leadership Model-Trust- Inspire is brilliatly articulated in his book “Trust & Inspire” by author Stephen M. R. Covey who nailed it. The uniqueness of this book is not only how well it is written but how impactful its ideas and stories that can span almost all aspects of relationships from home to work to school to even schools and sports. To me it was also very relevant to teaching and mentoring in medical education and research. From command and control to trust and inspire a revolution of learning how to build relationships what is an amazing book.

Absolutely agree Arnna Graham —differentiation is often misunderstood and oversimplified. As leaders, we need to approach it in a way that empowers and elevates everyone in our team, recognising their unique strengths and challenges. What should leaders handover when they leave an organisation? I have very few " files" to give, not much charge , power, status or JDs to transfer. What do I mean by this? When you enrol the whole team, empower them and include them, what you handover is priceless. You handover -Ethos -Ideologies -Philosophical underpinning -Beliefs and Basic assumptions -Organisation values -Balanced ways with task and relationships while passion drives the profession -Courage to steer new norms and innovation And much more.... Then the files and portfolio transfer are mere symbols.... Thus, the shared vision doesn't stay as an idea but becomes the DNA of the school. You become part of larger than self. Another one I wrote 20 years ago as part of the envisioning exercise.

Teaching grows the teacher. Leading grows the leader. Want someone to grow in either? Allow them the space to do either. Most likely, your crew has insights you aren’t aware of that help foster growth. Prompt them, and allow them to have a work shop based on their strongest metric.

Leaders are born, not made. As a kid, I used to hear people saying, "you are not made for leadership". Utter BS.. No one is born a leader. It isn’t in your DNA. Leadership is a learned ability that comes from practicing, failing, learning & practicing again. You want to take it to a whole different level? Teach it. There is no better way to learn anything than teaching. Teaching is the ultimate form of learning. My deep respect to all the teachers. Never stop learning & never stop teaching.

As a part of my IDP I´ve read this book and really recommend it. However, I got some ideas that I want to share to whom is interested in safety+leadership: 🤝 Trust + Psychological safety are sings of mature safety culture. 🧐 Zero harm programs must be reviewed. 🚀 Does your company have a core values? Check them. Adult-Adult leadership based on core values show care, trust and psychological safety as a result. 🚨 Language matters: Advisors to coaches, accident to learning event, accident investigations to learning review, audits to continuos improvement opportunities. 🌦 Finally, it works cascaded down throughout the organization, as usual.

The Selflessness Experiment: How Helping Others Shaped My Success and Perspective Ten years ago, I conducted a year-long experiment, a selfless experiment, inspired by a book I read in Shanghai called “The Law of Karma,” written by the author of “The Diamond Cutter.” After finishing the book, I was struck by the thought, “What if others are actually me?” The principle in the book is that if you want to succeed, help others succeed; if you want to learn leadership, help others develop their leadership. So I started to apply this principle, even sacrificing my own interests. For example, there was a trainer who asked me to introduce them to a training company. Typically, trainers are reluctant to share their cooperating companies with other trainers for fear of losing training opportunities.
