In large businesses, Procurement Officers are responsible for assessing products, services, suppliers and negotiating contracts. They are also responsible for ensuring that approved purchases are of a sufficient quality and are cost-efficient that would be beneficial to the company, which they must abide by the company regulations and reports to the chief procurement officer (CPO). Procurement managers also play a critical role in ensuring that organizations have the resources they need to operate effectively and they determine the best sources of supplies for the company. As a procurement officer, you track the supply usage for the company, analyzing trends of use throughout the company. You then research vendors that provide quality supplies at a fair price. Overall, they must be able to negotiate to ensure the five “rights” of procurement: The right of product, price, location, quantity, and quality. Working in procurement is a global profession. You may buy things from the global market or work with a global company. You can easily move around the world working in different positions and companies, still within the procurement profession and the average salary for a procurement officer in NGN 150k - 160k per month. What is Procurement??? Procurement encompasses a strategic approach to acquiring Works, Goods, and Services from external parties. It involves carefully considering critical factors such as Price, Quality, and Time. Key steps in the procurement process include: (1) Identifying and finalizing the requirements in collaboration with internal departments. (2) Draft comprehensive tender documents cover Technical, Financial, and General Conditions. (3) Ensuring widespread publicity of the tender to attract interested suppliers. (4) Facilitating supplier participation in the tender process. (5) Negotiation with suppliers with favourable terms (If any requirement) (6) Implementing robust quality assurance measures to ensure adherence to negotiated agreements. (7) Cultivating and maintaining strong relationships with suppliers to foster ongoing collaboration and mutual success. (This Post on procurement process is as per my views)
