📘 "Attaining food and nutrition security is a constitutional and human right of Ethiopians and hence the Government of Ethiopia has the responsibility to ensure that its citizens are food and nutrition secure”, as written in the Ethiopian National Food and Nutrition Policy 👉 A reminder on the World Food Day! After everything we did on policies, strategies, programmes, and etc... be in in #Health or #Nutrition, we are failling to ensure the bare minimum "#Right to #Food". ❗ If we really think about the nearly 30 million people who are severely food insecure, the >4million internally displaced people in our country #Ethiopia, It shouldn't have taken us this long to end conflicts. We are already in need of US $3.2 billion required to provide multisectoral humanitarian assistance to 15.5 million Ethiopians in dire situation. Chilldren need to eat; they should be able to attend school. We have a demanding future for multiple reasons as a country, even without the added man-made crisis. Let's walk the talk! #WoldFoodDay #HumanRight #HealthSystem #Nutrition #FoodSystems World Health Organization UNICEF Ethiopia United Nations

On October 16th, we gathered from across the continent, to participate in the “Voices of the Youth” Webinar, hosted by Africa Catalyzing Action for Nutrition (AfriCAN), to discuss an important question: How far have we come in our efforts to end hunger and malnutrition in Africa? As we consider Sustainable Development Goal 2 (ending hunger by 2030) and the Malabo targets (eliminating hunger and malnutrition by 2025), it’s evident that time is slipping away, and we are not where we need to be. Are we taking the right approach? What have we overlooked? It’s time for us, the youth, to step up and ACT R because we have a key role to play in creating solutions to ensure safe, nutritious, affordable, and sustainable food for all. Let’s connect, engage in dialogue, and collaborate to find solutions for achieving Sustainable Development Goal 2 (SDG 2)! Today is Africa Day for Food and Nutrition Security (#ADFNS)! The African Union, World Food Programme and partners, recently launched the Cost of Food and Nutrition in Africa (COFAN). The COFAN builds on the success of the Cost of Hunger in Africa (COHA) studies, which helped highlight the deep socio-economic impact of child undernutrition across the continent. But COFAN takes it even further, addressing new challenges like the dual impact of #malnutrition, #climatechange, and #foodsecurity gaps. It will provide data to draw impactful, evidence-based food and #nutrition policies across the continent. Pilot studies will kick off in #Egypt, #Lesotho, #Tanzania, #Congo #Brazzaville, #Senegal, and #Nigeria. ℹ️: https://lnkd.in/dMPFrVTw #ADFNS #Agenda2063 #ZeroHungerBy2030 #SDGs

Cambodia is prioritizing social protection and nutrition as key components of its development agenda. 📌Government agencies and international organizations are working together to fight against food insecurity and ensure that vulnerable populations have access to essential services. In this context, i-APS is in the final stages of conducting an endline evaluation of the Home-Grown School Feeding Programme (HGSFP), led by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport in collaboration with the World Food Programme (WFP). The critical program focuses on improving children's nutrition through meals provided at schools. This program emphasizes the use of locally sourced food, supporting both the local economy and agriculture. #Cambodia #SocialProtection #Nutrition #FoodSecurity #VulnerablePopulations #SustainableDevelopment #Government #InternationalCooperation #Partnership #DevelopmentAgenda

Acute malnutrition is rapidly increasing in Government of Yemen (GoY)-controlled areas, with the West Coast experiencing “extremely critical” levels for the first time according to the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC) Technical Working Group in Yemen. According to the latest IPC Acute Malnutrition Analysis: 🛑the number of children under the age of 5 suffering acute malnutrition, or wasting, rose by 34% compared to the previous year, affecting over 600,000 children, including 120,000 children who are severely malnourished. 🛑around 223,000 pregnant and lactating women were found to be acutely malnourished in 2024. From July to October 2024 – lean season months when there is minimal agricultural activity, all 117 districts in the GoY-controlled areas covered in the survey are projected to experience "serious” levels of acute malnutrition or worse (IPC Acute Malnutrition phase 3+), and Mawza district in Taizz lowlands is also projected to slip into the extremely critical level (IPC AMN phase 5). Yemen, mired in a protracted conflict and economic collapse, has been battling with some of the highest malnutrition rates in the world. The ongoing conflict, economic instability, and recurrent disease outbreaks continue to be the primary drivers of the country’s malnutrition crisis. The four United Nations agencies - UNICEF, Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), World Food Programme and World Health Organization (WHO) - call for urgent and sustained international support and immediate action to address the root causes of acute malnutrition, by strengthening existing social protection, health, food and water, sanitation, and hygiene systems. At the same time, an end to the nearly decade-long conflict and the restoration of peace is critical to address the challenges and build the resilience of Yemeni people devastated by the lack of basic services, repeated displacements, and shattered economic and social systems.

The rising double-burden of malnutrition orchestrated by food insecurity and unhealthy food environment continues create hove to many livelihoods especially in #LMICs. #NCDs claim 41 million lives accounting for 74% of the total global deaths. Cardiovascular ncds, chronic respiratory diseases, cancer and diabetes are responsible for staggering 80% of all premature deaths. Our food environment suffers several drawbacks that predisposes consumers to negative health impacts. Ultra-processed foods with high ingredients of concern; #salt, #sugar, #Trans fats and #sodium acclelerates #obesity and linked condition. @NCD alliance Kenya, we embark on journey of raising awareness and driving the adoption of scientifically informed Nutrient Profile Model and Front of pack warning Labels so that consumers can have informed choice before making their purchase. This calls for multi sectoral approach for nutrition policy advocacy and we rally your support to help us pave way for healthier future. #ncdfreeKenya #AnneSwakei #NCDAKFood

🌍 South Sudan Faces Worsening Food Insecurity, Malnutrition, and WASH Crisis The acute food insecurity and malnutrition situation in South Sudan is rapidly deteriorating due to economic crises, repeated climatic shocks—primarily flooding—and ongoing conflict and insecurity. The influx of returnees and refugees from Sudan further strains the fragile state. 📊 Key Figures (September–November 2024): 6.3 million people (47% of the population) face IPC Phase 3+ (Crisis or worse). 1.71 million people face critical food insecurity (IPC Phase 4 - Emergency). 41,000 people face catastrophic conditions (IPC Phase 5 - Catastrophe). Projected to worsen: By April–July 2025, 7.69 million people (57% of the population) may face IPC Phase 3+, including 2.53 million in Phase 4 and 63,000 in Phase 5. 💔 Nutritional Impact: 2.1 million children under 5 and 1.11 million pregnant/breastfeeding women are expected to suffer acute malnutrition by mid-2025. The severity of malnutrition is critical in states like Jonglei, Northern Bahr el Ghazal, and Upper Nile. 🚰 WASH Challenges: 74% of households practice open defecation, worsening disease and malnutrition risks, especially in flood-affected areas. Poor access to safe water and sanitation fuels preventable illnesses like diarrhea and malaria, undermining nutritional recovery efforts. Urgent Actions Needed: 1️⃣ Scale up lifesaving food, nutrition, and WASH interventions. 2️⃣ Promote peace and conflict resolution. 3️⃣ Improve access to healthcare and sanitation facilities. 4️⃣ Support resilient, climate-smart agricultural practices. The time to act is now. Let’s join efforts to save lives and build resilience. #SouthSudan #FoodInsecurity #HumanitarianCrisis #Nutrition #WASH #GlobalHealth
