"Better than what we were doing, eh?" Here are some clips from on site last week, on a prestigious bridge refurbishment project in central London, after a demonstration of VersaDrive Cutting Tools to the engineers. They were having to cut some new threads and also cleaning out some existing ones. Following my last post, which caused a war in the comment section mostly from a couple of CNC machinists who have never been on site, this first clip is a great example of when and where impact tapping comes into it's own. There wasn't anywhere you could get a magdrill locked onto a flat piece of metal... but with an impact gun, you have the power literally in your hands to do it very quickly and safely. #nokickback They had bought some Holemaker Technology Magdrills (proudly made in our factory in Sheffield, England) but some of the holes just couldn't be drilled and tapped with a magdrill. They had bought the right tools for the job already; the long series VersaDrive M20 Taps to get through the deep clearance holes, but they hadn't realised that you could use them on an impact gun and were tapping by hand. One quick impact demo later and they were off! "We've just about done, in 10 minutes, what had taken us 3 days!"
