The Growth Model (from the textbook 'Revenue Architecture') shows the 12 revenue breakpoints that every #SaaS company goes through. Pricing and Packaging are among the earliest decisions in a startup's trajectory, but strangely, they're often an afterthought: Now that I have a product to sell, how much should I charge? This approach emphasizes defining the correct pricing point, which is often impossible for a company still trying to define what value it brings to the market. What companies should do instead is use monetization as a forcing function to answer questions about their subscription value loop: - What should we charge for? - When should we charge? - Who are we charging? - How is the metric we charge scaling related to how the customer receives value? The answer to these questions will change at every stage of a company. Establishing good pricing research and experimentation practices early will help inform your strategy as you scale.
