Sales is an art. And sales can happen anywhere.... Ever had that moment when you think, "No way this is happening!"? Well, I did, and it's a story that'll make you believe in the magic of sales! A client from Surat, dreaming of 20,000 sq ft of artificial grass for his bungalow. We're talking about an 18 L rupee order here. Not a small change, right? But here's the twist - our client's on a ticking clock. He's catching a train from Borivali (for those who don't know, it's a bustling station in Mumbai), and he's got a mere 35 minutes. No time for a showroom visit. What do we do? Well, if the client can't come to the grass, we bring the grass to the client! 😎 The next thing: We're rolling out artificial grass on a crowded railway platform. Yes, you read that right! People are staring, probably thinking we've lost our marbles. But our client? He's walking on it, feeling it under his feet. And guess what? He loves it! Now, this is where it gets cinematic. The train starts moving. Our client, in true SRK style, leans out and shouts those three magic words: "deal is done". 18+ L first order and multiple projects in Surat to follow. And in fact it needs a vision and courage to travel (for business) to the locations or places where there is no settled business, leads or channel partners because you need to start from somewhere. Sales demand two separate activities parallel; #One, To handle the existing sales, leads, partners; and #Two, To explore new geographic areas and to penetrate more in the existing geographic areas too. It is always recommended to grow in a vertical and horizontal as well or else in the long run no growth will be happening. Taking that first step and putting efforts into the raw areas are painful but someday this pain would get converted into good things. Sales is easy, but difficult is to make a foundation for the future business and sales, and this is the reason why most sales-people are only comfortable and dependent on the leads and orders provided by them through an autonomous system of sales and revenue generation. And the people who like to dig their own well for the thirst, will never go out of the water ever. Give your 100% or leave the race. Stay hungry. Don’t Be Ashamed to Be a Sales Guy. Yesterday, we had an internal meeting with our Executive Director, Mr. Premjith PS Sir, during his visit to our Chennai branch. While sharing his experiences in sales, he mentioned the "Dogs and Salespeople Not Allowed" boards still seen in Mumbai. Adding to this, he said something that really struck me: "Don’t be ashamed to be a sales guy." That line hits me. Over the years, I’ve experienced both incredibly happy and frustrating moments because of this “sales guy” tag. But you know what? Sales is one of the most passionate professions out there. We deal with immense pressure, always chasing targets. I truly believe it’s a noble profession. Salespeople handle some of the toughest highs and lows in life. And let’s be honest—there’s nothing more intense than a sales review meeting, especially when we haven’t hit our targets! P.S. This isn’t one of those attention-seeking LinkedIn posts and not glorify or romantise the Pressure against salespeople. This really happened, and I just wanted to share it with my fellow salespeople.
